January 16, 2015 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Milwaukee Admirals News Release
Utica, NY--Goalie Magnus Hellberg stopped 30 shots to lead the Milwaukee Admirals to a 2-1 win over the Utica Comets Friday night
It was Milwaukee's sixth straight win, tying a season-high and their first ever win over Utica.
In a matchup of AHL Western Conference All-Stars in goal, Hellberg stopped 30 of 31 shots while his counterpart, Jacob Markstrom, turned aside 19 of 21.
The Admirals scored the game-winner with 33.5 seconds to play in the game. After a high-pressure period in the Admirals defensive zone, defenseman Ian White was able to send a long pass to left win Viktor Arvidsson. Arvidsson skated into the offensive zone and slid a pass to the right circle for Mark Van Guilder. Van Guilder's low shot beat Markstrom inside the left post. Arvidsson and White were awarded assists.
The Comets tied the game with 6:45 to play in the third period. A clearing attempt by White hit a seam in the boards and bounced out of the corner toward the goal mouth. Utica's Dustin Jeffrey found the puck and popped it into the net to knot the score.
The Admirals got on the board first when Rich Clune tapped in a loose puck from the right post for his second goal of the season. Defenseman White's shot from the right point hit bodies in front of the Comets goal. Clune pushed the puck into the net at 12:11 of the first period. White and Brendan Leipsic recorded the assists.
The Admirals conclude a three-game road trip with a game at Adirondack Saturday night.
Milwaukee's returns to the BMO Harris Bradley Center to host Utica Wednesday, Jan. 21 at 7 pm.
