
Crunch Sign Defenseman Charlie Dodero

SYRACUSE, N.Y. - The Syracuse Crunch have signed defenseman Charlie Dodero to a professional tryout contract, general manager Julien BriseBois announced today. Dodero is expected to be available when Syracuse visits Binghamton at 7:05 p.m.
Dodero, a 22-year-old in his second professional season, comes to Syracuse from the Idaho Steelheads (ECHL) where he's played in 33 of 37 games, registering 12 points (3g, 9a), 81 penalty minutes, 49 shots on goal and a plus-1 rating.
Dodero hails from Bloomingdale, Illinois, stands 6 feet 2 inches, weighs 201 pounds and shoots right. He will wear No. 44 for Syracuse.
Dodero split his first professional season between two ECHL teams, the Greenville Road Warriors- two assists in 14 games- and Idaho- 19 points (4g, 15a) in 44 games. He played an additional 11 contests in the Kelly Cup Playoffs for Idaho, posting five points (1g, 4a).
In four seasons of junior hockey in the Ontario Hockey League (OHL), Dodero totaled 69 points (11g, 58a) in 248 games with the Sudbury Wolves and Kitchener Rangers. His head coach in Sudbury was Trent Cull, current Crunch assistant coach.
Dodero participated in Texas Stars training camp in 2014 and New York Rangers/Hartford Wolf Pack camp in 2013 but has not appeared in any AHL or NHL regular season games.
This season, three of Dodero's 12 points with Idaho have come on the power play (1g, 2a). He has three multi-point performances including two assists and the game-winning goal Nov. 11 versus the Ontario Reign. Idaho is second in the ECHL's Western Conference and first in the Pacific Division.
The Crunch travel for three games this weekend, and next play at home Jan. 23 vs. Lehigh Valley and Jan. 24 vs. Hartford.
