Manchester Monarchs News Release
MANCHESTER, NH - Eight Monarchs tallied points on Sunday afternoon, and the Monarchs came out with a 5-3 win over the Worcester Railers at the SNHU Arena.
The Monarchs (8-3-1-1) beat the Railers (5-5-1-0) for the second time in as many nights, and came out of the weekend with three convincing victories.
Manchester opened the scoring at 4:43 of the first period when Kevin Morris netted his 7th goal of the season. After receiving a pass from Matt Marcinew in the neutral zone, Morris skated to the right hash marks and fired a wrister past the blocker of Railers goaltender, Eamon McAdam, to make the score, 1-0.
The Monarchs increased their lead to 2-0 at :16 of the second period when Craig Wyszomirski scored his 2nd goal of the season. A shot from David Kolomatis deflected off the boards where Wyszomirski gained control and fired a wrister that ricocheted off of a Railers player and into the net.
The Monarchs added another goal to the scoreboard when Cory Ward scored his 5th goal of the season at 7:23 of the second period. Ward forced a turnover and fired a shot through McAdam's five-hole to give the Monarchs a 3-0 lead.
The Railers cut the Monarchs lead down to 3-1 at 19:15 of the second period on a power-play goal from Patrick McNally, his 6th of the season. After receiving a pass from Chris Langkow, McNally fired a snap shot that went over the blocker of Monarchs goaltender, Evan Cowley.
Matt Marcinew put the Monarchs up 4-1 at 9:52 of the third period when he scored on the powerplay, his 5th goal of the season. Marcinew received a pass out of the corner from Ward and went on a breakaway where he fired a wrister over the glove of McAdams to give the Monarchs their three-goal lead back.
The Railers cut the Monarchs lead in half at 11:32 of the third period when Wade Murphy scored his 3rd goal of the season. After receiving a pass from Langkow, Murphy skated to just above the goal line and shot a wrister that slipped past Cowley to make it a 4-2 game.
Zac Lynch ended the scoring with an empty-net-goal at 17:54 of the third period, his 4th goal of the season, to seal the Monarchs, 5-2, victory.
