Three-game road swing begins with a morning at Monarchs

Manchester, NH - Coming off a four-goal home victory, the Reading Royals (6-3-1-0, 13 pts., 4th North) seek momentum at the Manchester Monarchs (8-3-1-1, 18 pts, T-1st North) Wednesday at 10 a.m. The Royals' 5-1 win Saturday against Jacksonville snipped a two-game slide.

The Royals are playing the first of three straight on the road; the team is in Brampton this Friday and Sunday. Manchester and Reading meet nine times this season.

With a 5-0-0-0 mark at Santander Arena, Reading is off to its second-best home start in team history (7-0-0-0 in 2005-06). On the road, the Royals completed a five-game trip a week ago and went 1-3-1-0. The next seven Reading games are against division opponents.

Muse is a helping man

Goaltender John Muse earned his second assist of the season Saturday against Jacksonville, the first time in his professional career he has had more than one point in a regular season. The 8th-year professional leads ECHL goalies in points (2) and recorded a secondary helper on an empty-net goal by Alex Krushelnyski. He has five career regular-season points.

In 2012, Muse had one assist in the regular season and had a postseason assist during Florida's run to the 2012 Kelly Cup. Muse was named Kelly Cup Playoffs MVP with an 11-2 record, 1.78 goals against average and .939 save percentage.

This season, Muse is 3-1-1-0 with a 2.40 goals against average and .928 save percentage.

Hometown guy breaks through

Steven Swavely had his first multi-point game of the season last time out, recording a goal and two points. A Reading native, Swavely had 18 goals and 39 points in 40 games last season in his rookie campaign. The 25-year-old captained the University of Maine in 2015-16 and signed an amateur try-out (ATO) with the Flyers in March 2016.

He has 10 multi-point games in his career.

Swavely graduated locally from Muhlenberg High School in 2010.

Schmidt's USA goal

Adam Schmidt scored (1g, 1a) in Reading's last game, his second professional goal in the United States. A 2014 graduate of Holy Cross, Schmidt spent 2014-17 in Sweden. After leaving Holy Cross, he traveled across town to the AHL's Worcester Sharks to begin his professional career.

Schmidt had last scored in North America on Apr. 9, 2014, a 2-1 loss to the Hartford Wolf Pack.

He celebrates his 27th birthday tomorrow. He has eight points (1g, 7a) in nine games.

Scouting Manchester

The Monarchs are on a six-game point streak (5-0-1-0) and have climbed on top of the North Division with a 5-1-1-1 road record. The team returned home Sunday and whooped Worcester, 5-2, at SNHU Arena. The team is 3-2-0-0 at home.

Kevin Morris leads the team with seven goals. He scored one goal Sunday and notched a hat trick against Worcester Saturday. Tony Cameranesi has a squad-best 14 points (4g).

Save for two instances, rookie goalies Charles Williams (7 GP) and Evan Cowley (6 GP) have platooned. Williams sports a 5-1-1-0 mark, 2.39 GAA and .917 save percentage. Cowley (3-2-0-0, 2.81 GAA, .915 sv%) has allowed one goal in each of his last two appearances.

Richard Seeley is Manchester's third-year Head Coach. He was on the Monarchs (in the AHL) from 2001-06 and was team captain his last three seasons.
