Knodel's Hat Trick Propels Cyclones Past Mallards

CINCINNATI, Ohio - Eric Knodel's hat trick propelled the host Cincinnati Cyclones (7-3-1) to a 5-2 victory over t he Quad City Mallards (6-6-0) Tuesday.

The Cyclones scored the game's first three goals. Knodel's wrist shot from the left wing circle gave Cincinnati a 1-0 lead at 17:56 of the first period. Shawn O'Donnell charged into the left wing circle to backhand the Cyclones into a 2-0 advantage at 6:42 of the second period. Cincinnati was on the power play when Knodel blasted the Cyclones' third goal from the left wing circle two minutes and five seconds later.

Tyler Wong cut the gap to 3-1 during a Mallard two-man advantage by one timing Sam Warning's cross-ice pass at 11:24 of the second.

The Cyclone lead widened to 4-1 when Arvin Atwal buried the puck from the slot at 7:59 of the third period. Kyle Follmer's power play tip-in brought the Mallards back within two at 14:20 of the third but Knodel would complete his hat trick and cap off the Cincinnati win by scoring an empty net goal with just six seconds remaining.

The Mallards next play at home Friday night at 7:05 p.m. against the Tulsa Oilers. F riday's game also brings the return of $2 Dog/$2 Beer Night presented by 97X. Fans can enjoy $2 hot dogs and beers from iWireless Center concession stands during every Friday Mallards home game. In addition, the Mallards have once again this season partnered with Metro to provide transit service between Augustana College and downtown Moline during all Friday home games. As part of Metro's unlimited ride program, Augustana riders can use their Augustana ID as their fare.

Tickets for Friday's contest and all Mallards regular season home games are now on sale at the TaxSlayer Center box office, Ticketmaster toll free charge-by-phone (1-800-745-3000) and ticketmaster.com. The box office is open weekdays from 10:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. and Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
