Beast Extend Winning Streak to Three with Wild Win over Worcester
November 15, 2017 - ECHL (ECHL)
Brampton Beast News Release
WORCESTER, MASSACHUSETTS - Beast defenseman Matt Petgrave scored the go-ahead goal with 2:38 remaining in the third period to help the Beast eke out an exciting 4-3 win over the Worcester Railers at DCU Center on Tuesday afternoon.
Petgrave, Kevin Dufour, Reggie Traccitto and Brandon Marino each recorded singles for the Beast, who have now won three straight games for the first time this season.
Worcester's Mike Cornell got the scoring started at 4:25, sending a point shot through a crowd that beat Beast starting goaltender Andrew D'Agostini for a power play goal.
It didn't take long for the Beast to find the equalizer. Dufour settled a loose puck at the top of the right wing circle and executed a tight spin move before rifling a hard low shot on goal that beat Worcester netminder Eamon McAdam to tie the game at 9:58.
The score remained tied into the second period until the Beast broke the deadlock while down a man. Chris Leveille spotted Reggie Traccitto sneaking in behind the Worcester defense and hit him with a perfect pass. Traccitto made no mistake and beat McAdam cleanly for his third goal of the season at 7:42.
The Beast would add to their lead early in the third period thanks to captain Brandon Marino. Parked on the doorstep, Marino took several whacks at the loose puck alongside the goal and finally connected and put it into the back of the net for his fifth goal of the season at 5:31.
But the Railers, fuelled by a boisterous crowd on school day, got back-to-back goals from T.J. Syner and Jeff Kubiak by the 13:14 mark to the game at 3-3.
The Beast were determined to end the game in regulation time and were successful with less than three minutes remaining in regulation. While enjoying a short power play, Dufour and Petgrave snuck into the offensive zone on a 2-on-1. Petgrave's first shot attempt was stopped by McAdam but Petgrave would not be denied on the rebound.
Brampton weathered a late Railers storm to skate away with the victory.
D'Agostini was solid between the pipes for Brampton and finished the game with 25 saves.
NOTES: Molson Three Stars: 3) Leveille (BRM) 2) Kubiak (WOR) 1) Dufour. The Beast finished the game 1-for-4 on the power play and 7-for-8 on the penalty kill. The Beast return to action on Friday, November 17 as they host the ECHL affiliate of the Philadelphia Flyers, the Reading Royals at 7:15 PM.
