Kansas City Mavericks News Release

ANCHORAGE, AK (Oct. 16, 2015) - The Missouri Mavericks were denied a season-opener victory against the Alaska Aces on Friday night when the visiting team fell short 3-1 at the Sullivan Arena in Anchorage, AK. The Mavs split their back-to-back pre-season scrimmages with the Aces earlier in the week, and will continue their weekend in Aces territory with match-ups on Saturday and Sunday.

The Aces jumped on the board first with a quick goal from left wing, Justin Brenton only twenty-four seconds into the period. David Eddy and Ben Lake were credited with the assists on the goal. The Mavs battled through a physical frame of hockey, trailing in shots on goal until an explosive offensive push in the final minutes of the period.

Alaska expanded their lead over the visiting Mavericks 2-0 at 7:46 of the second period when Gleason Fournier snuck the puck through the five-hole past Mavs goalie, Parker Milner. Stephen Perfetto and Joe Perry picked up the assists.

The Mavs were denied a top shelf goal that was originally called on the ice at the top of the third period, but after review, officials deemed that the net was dislodged before the puck found its way past Aces net minder, Troy Redmann, leaving the score at 2-0 Aces.

Missouri got their lone tally of the game at 13:14 of the third when Jesse Root bested Redmann with the aid of Tyler Barnes and Trevor Ludwig for a 2-1 scoreboard. The Mavs pulled goaltender, Parker Milner, from between the pipes with 1:25 left on the clock in favor of an extra attacker in orange on the ice. The Aces' Breton notched his second goal of the game on an empty Missouri net to clinch a 3-1 win for Alaska.

The Mavericks continue their weekend series on the road in Anchorage, AK with a 10:15p.m. (CT) puck drop against the Aces on Saturday night, and wrap things up with a 6:05p.m. (CT) game on Sunday evening at Sullivan Arena. Fans who did not take the trip to the last frontier can catch all the hockey action online through ECHL.TV or through the "Listen Live" feature on MissouriMavericks.com.
