Elmira Jackals News Release
ELMIRA, NY - October 17, 2015 - The Elmira Jackals defeated the Brampton Beast 4-2 tonight at First Arena in Elmira, NY to earn their first win of the 2015-16 season and improve to 1-1-0 overall.
The Jackals jumped out early with speed, creating a plethora of chances in the offensive zone while stifling the Brampton attack. Cason Hohmann appeared to score just minutes into the game, but the referee immediately waved the goal off, leaving the game scoreless. However, Hohmann would get the last laugh as he started the scoring with his first professional goal at 9:53 of the opening stanza. Allan McPherson fed the puck to the point for Nathan Oystrick, who's shot was blocked in front but found the stick of Hohmann for the early marker. Less than two minutes later, Chris Langkow forced a turnover deep in the Brampton end and found Mike Seidel in the circle for a missile top-shelf over the glove of Eddie Pasquale. The Jackals carried a 2-0 lead and a 17-4 shot advantage into the first intermission.
The second period saw fewer opportunities for both sides until it appeared that Chris Langkow added the Jackals third goal of the night at 6:57 of the period. However, for the second time tonight, the referee waved off the goal and gave Langkow a penalty for goaltender interference. The Jackals killed off the minor penalty, but Brampton would capitalize on the man advantage later in the frame. Travis Brown blasted a slap-shot from the point through traffic and past Sam Marotta at 13:56 of the period to cut the Jackals lead down to one. Yannick Tifu and Yannick Riendeau earned the assists on Brown's power-play marker. But, before the Beast could take momentum into the intermission, Allan McPherson burned down the left-wing side and lifted a shot over Pasquale on the short-side to regain the two-goal lead. Colin Jacobs and Will Kessel earned the helpers on McPherson's first goal of the season.
The Jackals added to their lead just 1:12 into the third period as McPherson fired a pass from the wall and tipped it in off the skate of Matt Garbowsky past Pasquale. The Beast would add one more power-play marker at 14:21 of the period as Matthew Maione tipped a point-shot in from the slot, but it would be too little too late for the comeback effort.
Sam Marotta turned aside 19 shots to earn the win as Eddie Pasquale allowed four goals on 32 shots and was handed the loss.
