
Eagles Rally Late, But Fall to Utah in Overtime 4-3

(Loveland, Colo)- The Colorado Eagles opened up the regular season at home Friday night with an overtime loss to the Utah Grizzlies 4-3.
The Eagles scored first when Jake Marto took a shot that rebounded in front of the net. Jesse Mychan buried the puck to finish the play, giving Colorado an early lead in the first period.
Utah scored on the power play a minute and a half into the second period when Josh MacDonald evened the score 1-1. The Grizzles added another power play goal when Andrew O'Brien placed the puck past goaltender Jacob DeSerres with 11:17 left in the second period.
The Grizzlies took a 3-1 lead 29 seconds into the third period when Barry Almeida scored with a put-back from the top of the crease. Colorado gained some ground on the power play when Giffen Nyren scored a one-timer from the blue line with 11:15 remaining in the third period.
The Eagles pulled their goaltender for the extra attacker and with just 27 seconds left, Kyle Ostrow scored from the low slot, tying the game 3-3 and forcing overtime.
MacDonald scored his second goal of the night for Utah on a breakaway with 48 seconds left in overtime to pick up the win.
The Eagles take on the Grizzlies again tomorrow night at the Budweiser Events Center in Loveland.
