Allen Americans News Release
Allen, Texas- The Allen Americans opened the season on Friday night at home against the Quad City Mallards, dropping a 2-1 decision on banner raising night.
Quad City opened the scoring in the first frame, firing one home on the power play, when Guillaume Gelinas netted his first of the season from Collin Valcourt and Miles Koules at the 9:24 mark despite being outshot 11-9 in the first.
Quad City added to their lead in the second period when Logan Nelson scored with a wrister from in front of the Americans net to give the Mallards a 2-0 lead. Allen held a slight advantage in shots on goal, 23-21 after two periods.
The Americans would finally break through in the third period, when Garrett Clarke scored on a blast from the right wing boards just inside the Quad City blue-line, to cut the lead to 2-1. The Americans had chances late in the final period with a power play and the extra attacker on the ice, but Mallards goalie Steve Michalek withheld the Americans pressure and picked up a 2-1 victory, spoiling banner raising night in Allen.
Dyson Stevenson and Ryan Tesink went toe to toe in the first period, with Stevenson getting the best of the Mallards forward, which had the big crowd on their feet.
Joel Rumpel got the call for Steve Martinson's club, spelling the Americans starter, who missed the game tonight due to illness. Dayn Belfour, son of former Dallas Stars goalie Eddie Belfour, backed up Rumpel as he was signed today as the emergency backup.
The Americans continue the homestand tomorrow night against the Tulsa Oilers at 7:05 pm. Tickets are on sale NOW at www.ticketmaster.com. Call 972-912-1000 for more information.
