Big Night for Brown and Tifu But Jackals Edge Beast 4-2

ELMIRA, NEW YORK - Saturday night featured a game full of milestones as Travis Brown netted his first professional goal and Yannick Tifu recorded his 500th career ECHL point but the Elmira Jackals used a pair of first period goals to stay ahead of the Brampton Beast, taking the 4-2 victory at First Arena in Elmira.
The ECHL's 2014-15 rookie defenseman points leader Mathew Maione also scored for Brampton (0-2-0-0) and Eddie Pasquale stood tall in his first appearance with the Beast and kicked out 28 saves, including 15 in the first period alone to keep the Beast alive all game.
Allan McPherson led the way for Elmira (1-1-0-0) with a goal and two assists, while Cason Hohmann, Mike Seidel and Matt Garbowsky each added singles to help the Jackals to their first win of the 2015-16 season.
Hohmann opened the scoring at 9:53 of the opening frame as he jumped on a loose puck in front of Pasquale and swept the puck into the net for his first of the season.
Less than two minutes later, Seidel pushed the lead to two as he placed a perfect one-timer over the glove of Pasquale with 8:11 left in the first.
The Beast power play flexed its muscles in the second period as Brown collected the puck on the blue line and fired a bullet behind Jackals starting goaltender Sam Marotta for his first pro goal. Tifu and Yannick Riendeau collected assists on the goal, giving Tifu his milestone point.
McPherson helped Elmira regain their two-goal lead as he entered the Beast zone with speed down the left wing and sent a laser of a wrist shot into the top corner at 18:44 of the second period.
The Beast came out with a burst of energy in the third period but it was the Jackals who got the next goal as Garbowsky had a puck deflect off his skate, prompting a conversation with the officials. The goal stood, giving Elmira a 4-1 lead.
The strong Beast power play clicked again in the third period as Maione fired the puck through a sea of bodies and found the back of the net to cut the Jackals lead to two with just over five minutes remaining.
Despite a late flurry from the Beast, Marotta and the Jackals shut the door to earn the win.
Notes: Three Stars: 3) Sam Marotta 2) Cason Hohmann 1) Allan McPherson. The Beast had a great night on the power play, finishing the game 2-for-3... The Beast remain perfect on the penalty kill in the 2015-16 season, killing off both opportunities.
