Utah Grizzlies News Release

WEST VALLEY CITY, UTAH- Utah went into Monday's game on a high note having won back-to-back games against the top two teams in the Western Division but they quickly sunk to a low with their fifth loss in six games versus Milwaukee falling 6-1. Simon Gamache led the way with two goals and an assist and Darren Haydar scored a goal and added a helper lifting the defending Calder Cup champs to the road victory.

Milwaukee took the early lead against the Grizzlies with the first goal coming at 8:11 of the period when Cam Severson used Utah defenseman Joe Callahan as a screen netting his second goal of the season assisted by Jerred Smithson and Brad Tiley. Later in the period, Darren Haydar flew down the right wing and snapped a low shot that snuck through Jean-Marc Pelletier's pads for his eighth goal of the season. Dan Hamhuis notched the loan assist. Utah would receive a power play late in the frame with just a minute remaining in the period and they would take advantage with a shot by Keith Ballard getting on net and shoved to the doorstep where Jeff Taffe cleaned up for his team-leading eighth goal of the season assisted by Ballard and Peter White at the 19:48 mark of the frame. Milwaukee outshot the Grizzlies 12-9 in the period.

The second period came to a crawl with numerous stoppages in play. Somewhere through the whistles, the Admirals netted two goals, both scored by Simon Gamache (his 15th and 16th tallies of the season). Milwaukee outshot the Grizzlies 14-9 in the frame for a two period total lead of 26-18.

Milwaukee kept the pressure on in the third period scoring twice more. Jordin Tootoo and Vern Fiddler scored for the Admirals. Fiddler's goal was his 10th of the season and came while Milwaukee was on a 5-on-3 power play. For the night, Milwaukee finished 1 for 7 with the man advantage and the Grizzlies went 1 for 6.

Jean-Marc Pelletier saw his four-game win streak come to an end and Seamus Kotyk improved to 3-0 on the season versus Utah.

Utah will face San Antonio on Wednesday night at the 'E' Center with face-off scheduled for 7:05 PM.
