WHAT A DEBUT FOR PENNER: Rookie goaltender Andrew Penner made his American Hockey League debut Sunday night @ Hershey, stopping all 30 shots against him, en route to his first AHL win and shutout. He is the second Crunch goaltender to record a shutout in his AHL debut (Craig Hillier â October 10, 1998). Prior to Sunday night Penner dressed for nine Crunch games over the last two seasons without seeing any action (6 â 2004-05 & 3 â 2003-04). A native of Scarborough, Ontario, Penner was signed by Columbus as a free agent on September 17, 2001.
CHRIS AND PETER FERRARO RECORD FIRST POINTS: Center Chris Ferraro recorded his first Syracuse goals on Sunday night, scoring twice to help lead the Crunch to a 3-0 victory over the Hershey Bears. Right wing Peter Ferraro recorded his first point in a Crunch uniform, assisting on Chris' third period goal. Syracuse signed both Ferraros on December 13 to AHL contracts.
GOERTZEN REASSIGNED TO SYRACUSE: The Syracuse Crunch announced that the Columbus Blue Jackets have reassigned right wing Steven Goertzen to Syracuse. Goertzen, 20, appeared in three games with Dayton (ECHL), recording one assist. Goertzen has appeared in 20 games with Syracuse this season, recording 1 goal, 2 assists and 44 penalty minutes. In 28 career AHL games, all with Syracuse, Goertzen has tallied 1 goal, 5 assists and 48 penalty minutes. A native of Stony Plain, Alberta, Goertzen was Columbus' 11th pick, 225th overall, in the 2002 Entry Draft.
HIT THE ROAD: After playing 10 of their last 12 games at home Syracuse began a stretch of 8 of 9 on the road Sunday night in Hershey. After playing in Rochester on December 23 Syracuse returns home to play Binghamton in December 27 before embarking on a six-game road trip to St. John's, Hamilton, Philadelphia, Binghamton and Wilkes-Barre.
THIS WEEK'S OPPONENTS:
ROCHESTER (BUFFALO SABRES): Syracuse visits Rochester on Thursday, December 23 for the fifth of 12 regular season meetings. Rochester leads the series 3-1, after shutting out Syracuse 2-0 at the War Memorial at Oncenter on December 18. Center Derek Roy (1g, 5a) leads all players with six points. Left wing Mike Pandolfo leads all Crunch players with four points (2g, 2a). Karl Goehring has appeared in two games for Syracuse, posting a 0-2-0 record, a 3.04 goals against average and a .921 save percentage. Ryan Miller has appeared in all four games for Rochester with a 3-1-0 record, a 1.48 goals against average and a .957 save percentage. Lifetime, the Crunch are 43-60-13 against the Amerks.
BINGHAMTON (OTTAWA SENATORS): The Crunch hosts Binghamton on Monday, December 27 for the fourth of eight regular season meetings. Binghamton leads the series 3-0, after defeating the Crunch 4-3 in overtime on December 12 at the War Memorial at Oncenter. Center Brad Moran (2g, 2a) and right wing Joe Motzko (1g, 3a) lead all Crunch players in head-to-head scoring with four points. Several Senators players have recorded four points. Karl Goehring has appeared in one game for Syracuse, recording 32 saves. Ray Emery appeared in two games for the Senators, posting a 2-0-0 record, a 1.94 goals against average and a .941 save percentage. Lifetime Syracuse is 7-10-2 against Binghamton.
INJURY UPDATE: Goaltender Pascal Leclaire is listed as day-to-day with a groin injury. He has missed seven games with the injury... Through 28 games this season, Syracuse has lost 34 man-games due to injuries. Jeff Panzer â 8, Pascal Leclaire â 7, Greg Mauldin - 6, Mark Hartigan â 3, Zenith Komarniski â 3, Raffaele Sannitz â 2, Francois Beauchemin â 2, Jamie Pushor â 1, Brandon Sugden â 1 and Aaron Johnson - 1, represent the Crunch's injury list this season.

Center Bard Moran moved into a third place tie with Chad Allan on the Crunch's all-time games played list on Sunday night, appearing in his 282nd. Mark Wotton is the Crunch's all-time leader with 310 games played.
