Providence Bruins begin 'Tip-A-Bruin' tonight
December 20, 2004 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Providence Bruins News Release
The Providence Bruins begin the week in third place in the Atlantic Division, with their 15-10-2-4 record (36 points). Head coach Scott Gordon's club is coming off a three-game week in which the team went 2-0-0-1. The Bruins have been surging during the month of December, posting a 6-2-0-2 record during the final month of 2004. Providence is on a streak in which it has not lost in regulation over the last eight games (6-0-0-2), taking 14 of a possible 16 points over that span. The Bruins' last loss in regulation was a 2-0 setback in Manchester on December 4.
Bruin left wing Andy Hilbert was nominated for CCM Vector AHL Player of the Week honors after posting 3-2-5 totals in last week's three games. The 23-year-old native of Howell, Michigan leads the team and is tied for sixth in AHL scoring with 16-16-32 totals in 31 games. He is tied for fourth in the league in goals, while leading the league with 132 shots on goal. Hilbert has rebounded in full force from a 2003-04 campaign in which he missed half the season due to a severe groin injury sustained in training camp. The fourth-year pro out of the University of Michigan is quickly making a strong move up the franchise record book. He ranks fourth in franchise history with 80-83-163 totals in 186 career games. A total of 24 points in the remaining 49 games this season will move him past the late Sergei Zholtok as the Bruins' all-time scoring leader. Hilbert is just four goals shy of eclipsing Zholtok's career mark of 83, and four power play goals away from moving past Cameron Mann's record of 31.
