Pawtucket Red Sox News Release

BUFFALO, N.Y. - Despite a late comeback in game one and another sterling night at the plate from Mike Miller, the Pawtucket Red Sox dropped both games of their doubleheader 4-3 with the Buffalo Bisons on Tuesday night at Sahlen Field.

In game one, the PawSox (10-14) fell to the Bisons (9-14), 4-3, on a walk-off RBI single in the bottom of the seventh inning from Lourdes Gurriel Jr.

Then in the nightcap, the PawSox jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first inning - only for the Bisons to plate four in the bottom of the third and spring to a 4-3 victory. The PawSox, who have endured seven postponements already in the season's first month, finish the month 10-5 in regulation-length games and 0-9 in seven-inning games (as parts of doubleheaders).

Miller recorded a pair of 2-for-4 games with a double and upped his average to .338 and his OPS to .982. Rusney Castillo, who smacked a three-run homer in the first inning of the nightcap, has now connected on four homers this season after going deep just five times in 2018. The reigning International League batting champion has a .862 OPS and is tied for second in the league in RBIs (21).

Rehabbing Red Sox infielder Eduardo Nuñez played all seven innings at third base (one error) in the first game and went 0-for-4 with some hard contact - a deep flyout to the warning track in the third inning and a line drive he smoked off the back of the Buffalo pitcher in the seventh inning.

In the first game, Pawtucket starter Teddy Stankiewicz spun five innings of two-run ball with four strikeouts. Bobby Poyner (L, 1-1) ceded two runs on three walks and three hits in 1.2 innings.

On a bullpen day in the nightcap, Matthew Gorst (L, 0-1) made his first professional start and allowed four runs on five hits and three walks in 2.1 innings. Domingo Tapia (2.2 IP) and Josh Taylor (1 IP) then combined on 3.2 shutout frames.

The PawSox continue their series in Buffalo on Wednesday at 6:05 p.m. PawSox right-hander Erasmo Ramirez (1-0, 2.13) is scheduled to oppose Buffalo righty Shawn Morimando (0-2, 12.56). Radio coverage on WHJJ (920 AM and 104.7 FM) and throughout the PawSox Radio Network begins with the pre-game show at 5:35 p.m.

Following the seven-game road trip, the PawSox return home Friday-Sunday (May 3-5) to host the Rochester Red Wings at McCoy Stadium. On Friday, the PawSox will present their 40th Armed Forces Night and also host the four recent Red Sox World Series trophies at the ballpark for fans to have photo opportunities. Good tickets are available, and fans can visit the McCoy Stadium box office, which is open Monday-Friday from 10 a.m. through 5 p.m., and during all home games. Fans can also call (401) 724-7300 or log on to PawSox.com for tickets.
