Charlotte Knights News Release
(UPTOWN CHARLOTTE, NC) -- RHP Dylan Cease dazzled over six solid innings, but the Charlotte Knights dropped the middle game of their three-game series against the Gwinnett Stripers by a score of 4-2 on Tuesday night from BB&T Ballpark in Uptown Charlotte.
Cease, 23, struck-out 11 batters over six sharp innings on Tuesday, but did not factor in the decision. Ranked as the third-best prospect in the Chicago White Sox organization by Baseball America, Cease allowed two runs on five hits and tossed a total of 80 pitches on the night. He left with the game tied at 2-2.
The Knights scored both of their runs in the bottom of the third inning thanks to an RBI triple from second baseman Ryan Goins and an RBI groundout from center fielder Charlie Tilson. Gwinnett left fielder Adam Duvall tied the game in the top of the fourth inning with a two-run double.
In the top of the seventh inning, Gwinnett center fielder Rafael Ortega put the Stripers ahead with an RBI single off Charlotte RHP Zach Thompson (1-1, 4.66), who was ultimately saddled with the loss. The Stripers added an insurance run in the top of the eighth inning thanks to an RBI double from Travis Demeritte, which also came off Thompson.
The two teams will now conclude their three-game series on Wednesday morning from BB&T Ballpark. Pre-game radio coverage of Wednesday's 11:05 a.m. game is set for 10:50 p.m. on 730 The Game ESPN Charlotte. The "Voice of the Charlotte Knights" Matt Swierad and long-time Knights broadcaster Mike Pacheco will have the call for all of the action. Wednesday's Education Day game is presented by Duke Energy.
