
Miller, Mariners' 2nd Round Pick Joins Kings

Clinton, IA - The Clinton LumberKings, in conjunction with the Seattle Mariners have announced the addition of shortstop Brad Miller, Seattle's second-round pick in the 2011 June draft, to the 25-man roster. To clear space for Miller, infielder Matt Browning has been promoted to high-A High Desert.

Miller, 21, received the Brooks Wallace Shortstop of the Year Award, after hitting .395 (77x195) with 53 runs scored, 11 doubles, 3 triples, 5 home runs and 50 RBI in 56 games for Clemson University. The junior from Windermere, FL is the first Tiger to be named Louisville Slugger First-Team All-America by Collegiate Baseball at shortstop since 2002, when shortstop Khalil Greene earned that honor on the way to being named national player-of-the-year. Miller, the 2011 ACC Player-of-the-Year, led the conference in batting average (.395) and on-base percentage (.489). He is a two-time member of the USA National team (2009 & 2010) and a two-time All-ACC Academic selection.
Miller hit .339 with 173 runs scored, 36 doubles, 8 triples, 16 homers and 135 RBI in 191 games (189 starts) in three seasons at Clemson. He had a career .451 on-base percentage, while ranking 7th in school history with 143 walks.
Browning, 23, hit .229 with nine doubles, two home runs and 19 RBI in 55 games with the LumberKings this season. Seattle's 43rd round pick in 2010 out of James Madison University joins High Desert for the second time this year. He hit .222 in five games with the Mavericks from April 8-14.
Miller will join the LumberKings for the finale of a three-game series against the Quad Cities River Bandits tonight at Alliant Energy Field, first pitch scheduled for 6:30 PM. Left-hander Anthony Fernandez (5-3, 2.84) gets the rubber-match start for Clinton against Quad Cities' right-hander Boone Whiting (3-1, 2.02).
