South Bend Silver Hawks News Release
South Bend, IN - The South Bend Silver Hawks scored four runs in 4.2 innings against Lake County starter Mike Goodnight (LP, 5-12) and held on for a 4-2 win on Friday night at Coveleski Stadium. The win completes a three game series sweep for the Silver Hawks and extends their current winning streak to four straight.
The Hawks last swept a three game home series on May 7-9 versus the Fort Wayne TinCaps. At press time, the TinCaps were routing the West Michigan Whitecaps, meaning the Silver Hawks will remain five games out of the wild card spot with 17 to go in the second half.
Bradin Hagens (WP, 7-6) continued his dominance of the Captains, allowing only one run over 6.0 innings to earn the win. Hagens is now 2-0 with a 1.40 ERA in four starts against Lake County this season.
South Bend took the lead against Goodnight in the second inning, rallying with two outs for a 2-0 lead. Niko Gallego walked, moved to second on a wild pitch, and scored on a RBI single from Ender Inciarte. Inciarte then scored second, which made it possible for him to score on a David Narodowski single for the 2-0 advantage.
The walks hurt Goodnight again in the fifth, when he issues free passes to Narodowki and Yazy Arbelo. A wild pitch moved the runners to second and third, then Matt Helm singled to center to push the lead to 4-0.
Lake County had solo homer from Kevin Fontanez in the sixth and a double and run scored from Carlos Moncrief in the seventh, but could not get any closer. Jeremy Erben (ND) allowed one run in 2.0 innings of relief and Victor Capellan (SV, 1) pitched around two singles in the ninth for his first save.
Narodowski had the lone multi-hit night for the Silver Hawks with a single and a double, while Arbelo went 0-for-0 with four walks.
South Bend heads out on the road Saturday for the first of four against the West Michigan Whitecaps (Detroit Tigers) in Comstock Park, Michigan. Game time is set for 7:00 PM Eastern Time with RHP J.R. Bradley (5-14, 5.25 ERA) starting for South Bend against West Michigan's LHP Alex Burgos (6-3, 1.94 ERA). Pre-game coverage begins at 6:40 PM Eastern Time on www.sportsjuice.com and www.silverhawks.com.
