Clinton takes early lead, holds on for series win

The Clinton LumberKings scored two early runs and never looked back in a 5-2 win Friday night over the Quad Cities River Bandits at Alliant Energy Field in Clinton, Iowa.

Clinton took an early 2-0 lead in the second inning when Kalian Sams (2-for-3) doubled to score Kevin Rivers. Later in the inning, John Hicks (1-for-4) singled to score Sams. The LumberKings scored three more times and held on for the win.

The River Bandits collected only two runs on five hits Friday night. Quad Cities score two runs in the fourth inning when Geoff Klein (3-for-4) doubled to score Cody Stanley (1-for-4). Later in the inning Packy Elkins (0-for-2) walked to score Edgar Lara (0-for-3).

Boone Whiting (L, 3-2) went five innings and allowed three runs on eight hits in the loss.

Anthony Fernandez (W, 6-3) picked up the win when he went five innings and allowed two runs on four hits. Jonathan Arias (S, 8) went two hitless innings and picked up his eighth save.

The River Bandits return home tomorrow to take on the Beloit Snappers at Modern Woodmen Park on a River Bandits umbrella giveaway sponsored by Rudy's Tacos. First pitch is set for 7:00 p.m.
