Iowa Wolves News Release
DES MOINES, Iowa - Gary Clark just beat the shot clock on the final possession to hit the target score of 114 in overtime as the Mexico City Capitanes edged the Iowa Wolves, 114-113, in overtime in front of 6,735 fans on Tuesday at Wells Fargo Arena. Tuesday was Iowa's (5-11) annual Education Day Game presented by IMT Insurance with thousands of students in attendance.
Clark finished with a game-high 28 points for Mexico City (13-5) and added nine rebounds and four assists.
After Clark's dunk put the Capitanes up three with 17.3 to play, Matt Lewis' three-pointer tied the game at 107 with 10.9 seconds left in the fourth. Later, Lewis nearly won the game in regulation with a half-court try at the buzzer after the Wolves forced a turnover.
PJ Dozier was Iowa's leading scorer with 26 points. Dozier put Iowa up eight with a one free throw for three points with just under eight minutes in the fourth. Dozier scored the team's first points in overtime on a pull up and Craig Randall II scored the next with a driving layup.
Skyler Mays though hit a huge three-pointer on the Capitanes' next possession after missing his first try but Justin Minaya rebounded the miss and found Mays who connected from deep. D.J. Carton scored next on a driving layup, Iowa forced a miss and Randall II nearly won it with a three-pointer that missed before Clark's jumper. Officials determined Clark's shot was good after a jump ball led to it.
Emmanuel Mudiay and Randall II each scored 21 points in the loss. Carton added 14 points.
Iowa welcomes the Texas Legends to Wells Fargo Arena on Thursday night at 7 p.m. CT for Black History Month Celebration presented by Principal.
