February 7, 2023 - NBA G League (G League)
Sioux Falls Skyforce News Release
Long Island Nets (14-3)
Last Meeting: 116-106 on 2/9/20 in Sioux Falls
Livestream: ESPN+, YES APP
All-Time Record: 1-1
Streak: W1
After a 4-1 record on a five-game road swing to start the month of January, the Sioux Falls Skyforce dropped three-straight at home.
With four remaining on a seven-game homestand, Sioux Falls would win the last four games and move to a 10-6 record (fourth in the Western Conference). The Force swept the Birmingham Squadron over the weekend, with the latter being a 120-111 victory on Sunday afternoon. Miami HEAT two-way player Jamal Cain and Justin Champagnie combined for 51 points on 19-31 FGA and 15 rebounds. Sioux Falls forced 17 turnovers and capitalized on 31 points off of them.
The team turns their focus on a three-game east coast trip this week, before heading to Salt Lake City to face the Stars before All-Star break starts on 2/14. Both the Skyforce (four-game winning streak) and Nets (eight-game winning streak) owns the longest two winning streaks currently in the NBA G League.
The matchup today with the Nets marks just the third time the organizations will meet and the second time Sioux Falls travels to Long Island. Raphiael Putney netted 26 points and grabbed nine rebounds on 2/21/19 in the team's last meeting, as the Nets took the contest 130-108. However, the Force won the last meeting 116-106 on 2/9/20, as Bubu Palo had 29 points and Marcus Lee posted 14 points and 17 rebounds in the effort.
Long Island, who owns the NBA G League's best record, features former HEAT and Skyforce two-way player Dru Smith, who earned an NBA Call-Up on 1/13/23 with the Brooklyn Nets on a two-way deal. Smith is averaging 15.7 points, 5.7 rebounds and 3.7 assists in six games for Long Island this season. He posted 24 points on 9-11 FGA (6-7 3PA) and four assists in the Nets' victory over Motor City on Saturday.
Both teams meet again on Wednesday night at 6:00 PM CST from Nissau Veterans Memorial Stadium.
