Scotty Pippen Jr. Selected to NBA G League Next up Game

EL SEGUNDO - Los Angeles Lakers two-way guard Scotty Pippen Jr. has been selected to compete in the NBA G League Next Up Game, which will take place on Sunday, Feb. 19, at Vivint Arena in Salt Lake City as part of NBA All-Star 2023, the league announced today.

Through eight regular season contests for the South Bay Lakers, Pippen Jr. is averaging 24.3 points (.509 FG%, .410 3P%), 3.8 rebounds, 6.9 assists and 1.4 steals in 29.0 minutes per game. Additionally, the guard is leading all reserves in scoring. Pippen Jr. appeared in 16 Showcase games for South Bay, averaging 23.1 points, 3.3 rebounds, 4.9 assists and 1.7 steals in 28.9 minutes. The rookie has appeared in six games for the Los Angeles Lakers, averaging 2.3 points in 5.3 minutes.

Iowa Wolves forward Luka Garza and NBA G League Ignite guard Scoot Henderson have been named team captains for the NBA G League Next Up Game.

Each captain will select a 12-man roster from the 24-player field during the NBA G League Next Up Game Draft, which will be broadcast on Feb. 14 on NBAGLeague.com at 11 a.m. PT and then on the NBA App at noon PT. The 24-player field includes players selected by a fan vote and the NBA G League. Head coaches Scott Morrison (Salt Lake City Stars) and Paul Hewitt (Ontario Clippers) will lead Team Scoot and Team Luka, respectively. ###

The NBA G League's South Bay Lakers are the first franchise in G League history to be owned by an NBA team (Los Angeles Lakers). The South Bay franchise has established itself as a top producer of NBA-ready talent, totaling 45 NBA Call-Ups and developing 26 Lakers assignment players since the inaugural 2006-07 season. South Bay has claimed two division titles and has twice competed in the NBA G League Finals.
