Kannapolis Cannon Ballers News Release
KANNAPOLIS, N.C. - Greenville's Kyri Washington provided an encore performance with a 3-run home run to provide the Drive's margin of victory in a 5-2 win (F/7) over Kannapolis in Game 2 of Tuesday's doubleheader at Intimidators Stadium supported by Carolinas HealthCare System. The Intimidators (22-36) dropped both games of the twin bill as Washington finished the day with two home runs and six RBI over the two games.
With the game tied 2-2 in the fifth inning, Washington stepped to the plate with two on and two out and hit a blast to left-center field off Jack Charleston. Charleston (1-4) suffered the loss, allowing three runs on five hits over two-thirds of an inning.
Greenville reliever Marc Brakeman shutout Kannapolis over 3.0 innings to earn the win, scattering four hits and a walk while striking out three. Anyelo Leclerc spun a perfect seventh inning for the save (4).
Danny Mendick finished 3-for-3, including driving in both Intimidators runs. He singled home Grant Massey in the first inning and doubled in Cody Daily in the third.
Ryan Riga spun 2 and 1/3 scoreless relief innings for the Intimidators, his ninth scoreless outing in 10 relief appearances since moving to the bullpen in early May.
The Intimidators wrap up this 3-game series against the Drive on Wednesday at 7:05 p.m. RHP Chris Comito (0-5, 6.91 ERA) to the mound against Greenville's RHP Jose Almonte (1-1, 2.14 ERA). Wednesday's game is another Weenie Wednesday presented by Nathan's Famous with $1 hot dogs all game long.
