GRAND RAPIDS, MI - Former Rampage forward Wade Megan netted his third goal of the night with two seconds remaining to notch the hat trick and lead the Grand Rapids Griffins (29-16-7) to a 5-1 victory over the San Antonio Rampage (24-22-4) on Friday night at Van Andel Arena.

Rampage goaltender Jared Coreau, who played with the Griffins for parts of five seasons from 2013-18, made 42 saves in his first game in Grand Rapids as a visitor. The Rampage saw their six-game unbeaten streak (3-0-3) come to an end.

With 4:16 remaining and the Griffins leading 2-1, Joey LaLeggia and Jordan Kyrou misconnected on a pass in the Rampage zone. Martin Frk, assigned to the Griffins on Thursday from the Detroit Red Wings, swooped in to intercept and fed Megan in the high slot for a wrister past Coreau and his second goal of the night to make it 3-1 Griffins.

Filip Zadina added an empty-netter 51 seconds later for his 14th goal of the season to make it 4-1. In the final seconds, the Griffins were on the attack again with a falling Zadina feeding Frk at the right post. Frk dropped the puck to the slot for Megan with two seconds remaining for the hat trick goal, his 12th goal of the season and the second hat trick of his AHL career. Megan became the fifth player this season to record a hat trick against San Antonio.

Megan totaled 20 goals and 31 points in 115 games with the Rampage from 2012-15.

The Griffins opened the scoring 1:07 into the first period when Colin Campbell took a Matt Puempel feed from behind the net and squeezed it through Coreau's arm for his fifth of the season. At 15:46 of the first, Megan scored his first goal of the game on a deflection of a Dennis Cholowski power play wrist shot. Cholowski, a first-round pick of the Red Wings in 2016, was also assigned from the Red Wings on Thursday.

The Rampage surrendered 22 shots in the first period, their most given up in a period this season.

Nolan Stevens scored the lone Rampage goal at 6:52 of the second period, redirecting a Jordan Schmaltz point shot for his fifth goal of the season.

Jordan Kyrou was held without a point, snapping his eight-game points streak. Sammy Blais was also held off the scoresheet for just the second time in the past 15 games.

During the first commercial break of the first period, Coreau was honored by the Griffins with a video tribute and a standing ovation from the crowd at Van Andel Arena.

The Rampage are 0-6-1 in their last seven visits to Grand Rapids, their last victory at Van Andel Arena coming on Oct. 17, 2015.

The Rampage and Griffins meet again at Van Andel Arena on Saturday night, the middle game of a three-in-three stretch for the Rampage over the weekend. Puck-drop is scheduled for 6 p.m. CT, with the game available on the Ticket 760AM and on AHLTV.
