Lehigh Valley IronPigs News Release

A late inning rally by the Railriders in front of a crowd of 2,670 carried them over the IronPigs to take the first two games of the Iron Rail Series. A three-run home run by Ryan McBroom off of Tom Windle in the bottom of the seventh inning put the Railriders on top. Brady Lail (1-0) earned his first win of the season for the Railriders while Tyler Viza (0-1) took the loose for the Pigs. Cale Coshow pitched the final two innings of relief for the Railriders and struck out four on his way to the save.

It was a debut to remember for 22-year-old Engel De Los Santos who made his AAA and Phillies organizational debut against the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Railriders. Lighting up the radar gun and silencing the Railriders bats, De Los Santos struck out five Railriders in the first two innings. De Los Santos tossed five strong innings for the Pigs and struck out seven in his debut. After surrendering a run in the bottom of the third, De Los Santos retired the next nine of eleven he would face including the side in the order in the fifth.

Roman Quinn was back in the lead off hole for the IronPigs and set the table for the Pigs offense against the Railriders. Quinn reached base four times in the ball game including a pair of singles and walks. Quinn scored a run and had an RBI in the ball game for the Pigs. Quinn now has a three game hitting streak to start the 2018 season.

With the no score in the third inning, Quinn singled through the hole on the right side that scored Logan Moore and put the Pigs up by one. Scranton/Wilkes-Barre evened the score in the bottom of the third and score remained tied until the sixth. The Pigs retook the lead in the sixth this time on the legs of Roman Quinn. Quinn singled and moved up to third on a single by Dean Anna. Tied at one Dylan Cozens lifted a sacrifice fly to center field to plate Quinn and put the Pigs up 2-1.

After the Railriders answered in the bottom of the sixth inning to tie the game at two the Pigs had an opportunity to retake the lead and throw up a crooked number against the Railriders pen. With the bases loaded and one down in the inning, Lail got back-to-back punch-outs to keep the game tied at two. The IronPigs finished the ball game 2-10 with runners in scoring position and left eight on base.

The Pigs were unable to avoid the big inning with the score tied the Railriders threw up a three spot in the bottom of the seventh inning to take a 5-2 lead. With runners on first and second and two outs Ryan McBoom homered into the RailRiders bullpen to give Scranton/Wilkes-Barre their first lead of the ball game.

The Railriders have now taken the first two games of the Rail Iron Classic from the Pigs and the opening series. The Pigs and Railriders will meet 17 more times including tomorrow night at 6:35. Drew Anderson will make his 2018 debut. The Pigs are now 1-3 on the season and Scranton/Wilkes-Barre improves to 4-1 on the year.
