Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders News Release
MOOSIC, Pa. - The Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders pounded out 12 hits in a 5-2 victory over the Lehigh Valley IronPigs Tuesday night at PNC Field. The RailRiders have taken a 2-0 lead in the 2018 IronRail series.
The game was scoreless until the top of the third when the IronPigs struck for a run against Brody Koerner. Logan Moore walked to lead off the frame and advanced to second on a wild pitch. An RBI single from Roman Quinn drove Moore in with the first run.
Scranton/Wilkes-Barre answered back with a run in the bottom of the third when Gleyber Torres led off with a single and scored on a Kyle Higashioka RBI single. The base knock gave the RailRiders catcher his fourth run batted in of the series.
In the top of the sixth, Lehigh Valley grabbed a 2-1 lead on a sacrifice fly from Dylan Cozens. The advantage was short-lived, however, as Abiatal Avelino delivered an RBI single in the bottom of the sixth to tie the game at 2-2.
The RailRiders took the lead for the first time in the bottom of the seventh when Ryan McBroom smacked a three-run home run off Tom Windle to open a 5-2 lead. McBroom finished the game 3-for-4 with two runs scored, a double, a home run and three RBIs. He finished a triple shy of the cycle in his third multi-hit effort of the season.
Cale Coshow earned his first save of the season, striking out four IronPigs in two innings of work. Brady Lail (1-0) got the win in relief for the RailRiders after tossing a scoreless seventh. Koerner got no decision after allowing two runs on three hits in five-plus innings of work, walking two and striking out two.
Gleyber Torres, Billy Fleming and Avelino all recorded two-hit games. Oliver Perez, Lail and Coshow combined for four scoreless innings out of the bullpen.
The RailRiders look for a series sweep of the Lehigh Valley IronPigs on Wednesday night at PNC Field. First pitch is scheduled for 6:35 pm. RHP Chance Adams (0-0, 9.82) will start for Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, while Drew Anderson (first start) toes the rubber for Lehigh Valley.
