Louisville Bats News Release
LOUISVILLE, Ky. - On a Tuesday night at Louisville Slugger Field, the Louisville Bats (2-3) cruised to a 7-1 victory over the Columbus Clippers (2-3) to even the three-game series. Ignited by designated hitter D.J. Peterson's line drive in the 3rd inning, the Bats registered 7 runs from 7 hits to clinch the game.
Bats starting pitcher Justin Nicolino (1-0, 1.80) picked up his first win of the season, going 5.0 innings, allowing only three hits, one earned run and striking out six. For Columbus, Alexi Ogando started on the mound, pitching 3.2 innings while only allowing one run off four hits. The relief pitcher Jack Leathersich earned his first loss of the season, pitching 1.1 innings allowing one run.
While the Clippers got on the board quickly with an RBI single in the first inning, it would be their only run of the game. A fielding error in the 5th inning scored left fielder Tyler Goeddel and gave the Bats momentum moving forward. Despite pitching changes by the Clippers, right fielder Sebastian Elizalde who went 2-4 on the day, homered on a 384-foot ball into right field to give the Bats a comfortable 2 run lead.
Both teams remained scoreless until the 8th inning when Tyler Goeddel hit a bases clearing double to increase the lead by three and secure the win.
The Bats will return to Slugger Field for the last game of the series against the Columbus Clippers, with first pitch scheduled for Wednesday, April 11th at 6:30 p.m. Right-hander Robert Stephenson (0-0, 8.44) will take the ball for Louisville, with Columbus countering with left-hander Shawn Morimando (1-0, 3.00).
