Kansas City Mavericks News Release

TULSA, Oklahoma - Toby Lafrance and Nick Sirota each scored a pair of goals and Robby Nolan stopped 24 of 26 shots as the Missouri Mavericks defeated the Tulsa Oilers, 5-2, Friday night at BOK Center. Missouri (6-4-2) tied a franchise record with four third-period goals, and won their second straight game for the first time in the 2010-11 season. Oilers' defenseman Derek Eastman scored both goals for the home team as they fell to 3-10-1 on the season. The teams will close out the home-and-home weekend Saturday night with a game at Independence Events Center at 7:05 p.m.

"Robby (Nolan) was great in net tonight," said Mavericks' Head Coach Scott Hillman. "We got ourselves in penalty trouble in the second, but stayed out of the box in the third. It was a great response from our guys in the third period and a solid effort as guys played through some tough bumps and bruises and battled to the end."

Only 3:13 into the opening period, Lafrance gave the Mavericks a 1-0 lead when he lifted the puck over the glove of Oilers' goaltender Ian Keserich. Mavericks' defenseman Dominic D'Amour and forward Tab Lardner assisted on the goal. The Mavs held on to the 1-0 lead for the remainder of the period and the teams were tied in shots at nine apiece.

The Oilers earned four power play chances in the second period and Mavericks' defenseman Ray Dilauro was whistled for three of the penalties. Eastman tied the game on a power play goal at the 13:52 mark on assists from Jack Combs and Chad Costello. Tulsa outshot Missouri 13-7 overall in the period and the teams were tied heading into the second intermission.

Eastman scored his second power play goal of the game just seven seconds into the third period to give the Oilers a 2-1 lead, but the Mavericks offense woke up following the goal. Missouri tied a team record with four goals in the final period, and it marked the first time this season the Mavs scored four in a single period.

Sirota scored the first of his two goals at the 5:24 mark on a nice centering pass from Ryan Jardine to tie the game, 2-2. Derek Pallardy scored his second goal in as many games, a power play goal, at 11:36 when he buried a rebound to give the Mavericks a 3-2 lead. Simon Watson assisted on Pallardy's goal extending his scoring streak to three games. Just 33 seconds later, Lafrance redirected a pass into the net for his second goal of the game on another power play. Finally, at the 16:30 mark, Sirota lifted a shot top shelf to beat Keserich for his second goal and it put the game out of reach for the Oilers.

The Mavericks and Oilers each finished with two power play goals and Missouri won the shot battle, 31-26. It was the second time this season the Mavericks have scored multiple power play goals, and the ninth time in 10 games in which the Mavericks tallied at least one goal with the man advantage.

The Mavericks and Oilers head to Independence Saturday night to complete the home-an-home series with a tilt at Independence Events Center at 7:05 p.m. Tickets for Saturday's game and all remaining regular season home games are on sale now and start at just $14 per game.
