Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs News Release
HIDALGO, TX - Trailing 2-0 after one period, the Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs scored three unanswered goals to knock off the Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees 3-2 Friday night at the State Farm Arena. The Mudbugs have now won four straight games and stand at 11-4 heading into tomorrow night's contest at Laredo.
Clayton set up goals by Steven Crampton and Joe Blaznek, with Justin Aikins notching the other tally as the Mudbugs improved to 3-0 against Rio Grande Valley this season. John DeCaro stopped 25 shots to earn his third win of the year in net as the âBugs outshot the Bee 32-27.
The Mudbugs outshot the Killer Bees 15-11 in the first period, but the home team took a 2-0 lead into the locker room thanks to two goals from Darcy Campbell. The first tally came at 3:41 when Campbell gathered a loose puck in front of the net and backhanded it past John DeCaro. Campbell scored again four minutes later off the rush, firing a perfect shot into the top corner to put Rio Grande Valley on top 2-0.
The âBugs rallied in the second frame, scoring twice to draw even at two apiece. Bossier-Shreveport got on the board when Steven Crampton re-directed a great Travis Clayton centering feed at 4:58 for his sixth goal of the season. Justin Aikins tied the game later in the period, using Crampton as a screen before sending a perfectly-placed wrist shot past Dan Rosen's right pad to make it 2-2 heading into the third period.
Clayton also set up the go-ahead goal during an odd-man rush in the third period. Clayton dropped a pass back for Joe Blaznek, who finished the 3-on-1 break by ripping a shot over Rosen's glove hand to put the âBugs ahead to stay at 3-2. DeCaro made seven more saves in the third to cap off the Bossier-Shreveport victory.
The Mudbugs were held off the scoreboard on three powerplay chances, while the Bees also finished 0 for 3. Dan Rosen dropped to 0-2 for the season despite making 29 stops.
Next up the Mudbugs will travel to Laredo, Texas to battle the rival Bucks for the third time this season tomorrow night. Opening faceoff is set for 7:30 pm with radio coverage beginning at 7:15 on AM 1130 KWKH. The game will also be shown live online on CHL-TV.
