Texas' Three Goal First Period Coasts Brahmas To Victory

November 19, 2010 - Central Hockey League (CHL)
Fort Worth Brahmas News Release

NORTH RICHLAND HILLS, Texas - A three goal first period was the only offense the Brahmas would need as they defeated the Laredo Bucks 3-1 Friday evening on the road, the fifth consecutive loss for the Bucks.

The Brahmas first goal came early, within :51 seconds of the game, when Chad Woollard beat Torrie Jung for his sixth goal of the season. Minutes later the teams skated four players aside until Mick Lawrence hit Jung's blocker causing the puck to trickle past the goal line for the 2-0 lead. Calin Wild redirected a shot for the third Texas goal leading to a change between the pipes for Laredo with nine minutes remaining in the opening frame.

Laredo's Justin Styffe was able to put the Bucks on the boards in the second when his breakaway slapper stunned Brahmas' netminder Kevin Beech, but that was all Beech would allow stopping 22 of 23 shots for the night. With the win, Beech is now 5-1-1 against the Bucks.

Texas continues their South Texas road trip tomorrow night when they face the Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees for a 7:30 pm faceoff; all the action can be caught online at CHL-TV. The Brahmas conclude their three game road trip Tuesday evening when they travel to Odessa to take on the Jackalopes. Texas returns next week to the NYTEX Sports Centre when they host their "Military Appreciation Nights" beginning Wednesday night. Check www.brahmas.com for all the Military Appreciation Night festivities, including free post game skates, jersey auctions, military discounts and a special ceremony in honor of former captain Craig Minard.
