Rapid City Rush News Release

(Loveland, CO) - The Rapid City Rush played the first game of a weekend home-and-home series on Friday night at the Budweiser Events Center. Early powerplay goals were the theme of the night as the Eagles came away with a 2-1 overtime victory. Despite the overtime loss, the Rush have now picked up points in seven of the last eight games.

Neither team could find the back of the net in the first period despite 5-on-3 powerplays for both sides.

The scoreless tie was broken with Riley Nelson's 7th goal of the season just 1:04 into the second period. While on the powerplay, Dylan Stanley entered the offensive zone on the right-wing side, slid a pass to Nelson late on the play, and the captain fired a shot that beat Danny Battochio through the five-hole.

The Rush tied the score 49 seconds into the middle period with a powerplay goal of their own. Andrew Martin and Scott Wray set up Derek LeBlanc who circled behind the net and centered a pass that deflected off of a skate and past Kyle Jones to make it 1-1.

The Rush began overtime on the penalty kill and it took the Eagles just 16 seconds to score the deciding goal. A cross-ice pass from Stanley was sent home by Kevin Ulanski from the back-post for the 2-1 overtime win.

The Rush ended the evening 1-for-5 on the powerplay, while the Eagles converted on two of their eight chances.

Danny Battochio was dealt his second overtime loss, making 27 saves, while Kyle Jones moved to 6-0-1 with a 30-save effort.

The Rush now move to 7-4-2 on the season.

The two teams now head to Rapid City for tomorrow's game set for 7:05pm at the Rushmore Plaza Civic Center. Tickets are still available for the game.
