CHL Headlines for Friday, November 19

Dayton's Traveling Show Rolls On- The Gems have a big test in front of them this weekend with three-games-in-three nights in three different cities. The opponents are Evansville on Friday, Fort Wayne on Saturday and Quad City on Sunday. The Gems are a combined 4-0-0 versus their three opponents this weekend and with their three straight wins overall are tied for second place in the Turner Conference. The Gems have yet to lose on the road, although they have played just two games away from home. Tim Hartung and Mike Vaskivuo have each scored three times in their last five games.

We Remember You- One of the best rivalries in the CHL features the Colorado Eagles (8-2-1) and the Rapid City Rush (7-4-1) who are two of the hottest teams in the CHL. So far this season, the Eagles have won all three match-ups with the Rush outscoring them 16-9. Colorado's Scott May has five goals and two assists in those three contests. The Eagles currently lead the Turner Conference with 17 points, while the Rush are two points in back with 15 points. The two teams meet three straight times including Friday in Colorado, Saturday in Rapid City and then Wednesday back in Colorado. The Rush have won three straight games going 5-1-1 over their last seven games and the Eagles' two-game losing streak (0-1-1) ended an eight-game win streak.

Dynamic Duo- No pair has been more prolific offensively this season than Odessa's Todd Robinson and Sebastien Thinel. The pair has combined for 16 goals and 28 assists ranking first and second in the CHL in scoring with 24 points (10-14$) for Thinel and 20 points (6-14=20) for Robinson. Thinel had three points in Thursday's 6-2 victory over Wichita.

Americans' Nino Musitelli/Colton Yellow Horn- 34 points

Home Ice Buzz- The Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees return home on Friday night after their three-game road trip that saw them go 1-2-0. The Bees have looked the home cooking this season posting a 3-0-1 record at the State Farm Arena. The Killer Bees are the last remaining CHL team without a regulation loss at home. On Friday, the Bees host the Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs and then the Texas Brahmas come knocking on Saturday night. RGV is six points behind the Mudbugs for second place in the Berry Conference and lead the Brahmas by two points.

Numbers Game

3 - The length of the upcoming road trip for the Texas Brahmas (5-3-2) who travel to Laredo on Friday night, Rio Grande Valley on Saturday night and Odessa on Tuesday. The Brahmas are 4-1-1 in their last six games riding the hot hand of goaltender Kevin Beech who is 3-0-1 in his last four decisions allowing just seven goals over that stretch (1.71 GAA).

4- The current losing streak of the Laredo Bucks who have lost four straight games for the first time since Jan. 12-Jan. 20 of 2007. The franchise has never lost five straight games in regulation and will look to avoid that mark on Friday night when they host the Texas Brahmas.

3.69- The combined average of goals per game for the Fort Wayne Komets (2-6-1) and Arizona Sundogs (3-7-2) who are the two bottom teams in the CHL in goals scored. The Komets are averaging 1.44 goals per game and the Sundogs are averaging 2.25 per game. The two teams will look for offense and a win on Friday when they square off in Fort Wayne.

10- The number of points that Sebastien Thinel has in the Jacks last four games scoring four goals with six assists. The 2009 CHL Most Valuable Player is also carrying a +6 plus/minus rating over those four games.

Slap Shots

-The latest Yellowbook CHL Coaches Poll came out this week and taking 16 of a possible 17 first place votes (teams are unable to vote for themselves) was the Allen Americans. Rounding out the top five were the Colorado Eagles, Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs, Dayton Gems and Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees.

-After a three-game home stand that saw the Quad City Mallards post a 2-1-0 record, the Flock will hit the road for a pair of road games, Friday in Mississippi and Saturday in Bloomington. The Mallards won the only meeting thus far with their rivals, the PrairieThunder, back on Nov. 6 and dating back to last season have won 11 of their last 18 match-ups.

-The Tulsa Oilers (3-9-1) and the Missouri Mavericks (5-4-2) play a home-and-home series this weekend with the Mavs holding a 4-0-1 record versus the Oilers in their last five meetings. This season, the Mavericks won the lone meeting on Nov. 5 by a 4-2 score.

-After going to OT/SO in back-to-back games, the Arizona Sundogs (3-7-2) proved that the third time is a charm as they ended their eight-game slide on Wednesday night in Bloomington with a 3-2 shootout win. The Sundogs end their current eight-game road trip this weekend with a game in Fort Wayne on Friday and a re-match in Bloomington on Sunday.

This Date in CHL History

On November 19, 2005, the Colorado Eagles defeated the Tulsa Oilers 2-1 in a shootout with Riley Nelson scoring the game winner in the shootout and assisting on the Eagles lone regulation goal. Nelson finished the 2005-06 season with 26 goals and 49 assists and earlier in the season he showed his longevity by scoring his 600th point in an Eagles uniform. This season, Nelson has six goals and 10 assists.
