THIS WEEKEND'S CONTESTS:

The Gems are looking to extend their winning streak to a season-high four games to start this weekend on Friday in Evansville. The two teams are meeting for the third time this season and second consecutive time in Evansville. Friday night's game marks the first of a three-games-in-three-nights series for the Gems, but the first of which all three games are away from Hara Arena. Saturday, the Gems take on their rivals the Fort Wayne Komets in Fort Wayne before finishing the road trip on Sunday in Quad City to take on the Mallards. Entering this weekend, the Komets have lost three games in-a-row for the first time in a long time and are looking to avoid their first four-game losing streak since January of 1999. Quad City has played well at home lately having won four out of their last five on home ice at the iwireless Center.

SCOUTING REPORT ON EVANSVILLE:

The IceMen are in the middle of a five-game home stand and are 4-1-1 overall at home this season. Their offense has been hot of late scoring an average of 4.33 goals per game in their last six games. They are undefeated against the Berry Conference (3-0) but have struggled within the Turner Conference, posting a record of 3-5-1 against the Turner. This is a very potent team with the power play, posting the third best percentage in the league at 23.1% and that is somewhat due in part to the five power play goals they scored in a single game last week in their 8-1win over Arizona. Goaltender Matt Lundin was named the Oakley CHL Goaltender of the Week after posting a 3-0-0 record, 1.67 GAA and .955 save percentage last week for the IceMen. Lundin did not play in the Gems 2-1 win last Saturday (November 13th) in Evansville; instead it was goaltender David Wilson taking the loss.

SCOUTING REPORT ON FORT WAYNE:

Fort Wayne has struggled to start the season as they continue to find a style of play that suits their team in an attempt to adjust to the completely different style of hockey in the CHL. The Komets have played the fewest number of games in the Turner Conference (9) and are currently in last place with only five points and a record of 2-6-1. They lead the CHL in attendance despite the slow start, averaging 8,966 fans into Allen County War Memorial Coliseum. One of the main contributors to their losing record has to be their lack of offense; the Komets are averaging a league worst 1.44 goals for per game. They have been outscored by their opponents 11-4 in the second period and are 1-5-0 when trailing after two periods of play. The lack of offense is not for a lack of effort, the Komets are among the top five teams in the CHL in shots per game, averaging 34.56 each contest. In the first meeting of the regular season between the Gems and Komets last Thursday (November 11th), the Komets outshot the Gems 45-22 but lost 4-1 in Dayton.

SCOUTING REPORT ON QUAD CITY:

The Mallards enter the weekend having won four out of their last five games on home ice. Newest Mallard, goaltender Adam Russo is 2-0 with a0.98GAA and .974 save percentage he has stopped 74 of 76 shots during the course of his two starts in net. Forwards Obi Aduba and Mike McLean are both in the midst of four-game point-scoring streaks. Tonight's game against the Mississippi RiverKings is the beginning of a stretch of games that consists of 7 games in 9 days, five of those games are on the road and during the nine day span, the Mallards will have traveled 3,158 miles. Forward Zac Pearson is 8th in the CHL in scoring but has gone four straight games without scoring a goal. Pearson is also the Mallards leading scorer with 11 points on seven goals and four assists. Former Dayton Gem Adam Maccarone now patrols the Mallards blue line. Maccarone has played in four games for Quad City and recorded two assists and a plus/minus rating of plus two. The Gems defeated Quad City 3-2 in the first meeting between the two teams in Dayton back on October 22nd. The Mallards also added versatile forward Jake Riddle to their lineup this week after signing him on Wednesday.

GEMS GAME NIGHT:

The Gems are coming off of their second road win of the season after defeating Evansville 2-1 last Saturday (November 13th). That win made it three consecutive victories for the Gems for the second time this season. Dayton is now 2-0 against Evansville and goaltender Jeff Jakaitis has a 1.00 GAA and .973 save percentage after stopping 73 of 75 shots in the two wins against Evansville. The Gems have been outshot by their opponents in all but one game this year and post a record of 7-1-1 for those nine games. In the third period alone, opponents have outshot the Gems 131-74 this season (entering this weekend). The Gems will try to be more disciplined in their three games this weekend after being called for 26 power plays against in the three games last week, 22 of which the Gems killed off. The line of Tim Hartung, Corey Couturier and Mike Vaskivuo will look to continue their stellar play as well after combining for 11 points (6G 5A) last weekend. The Gems are undefeated this season when scoring first (6-0) and are 5-0-1 when scoring first in the second period and 4-1-0 when scoring the first goal in the third period. Dayton has a record of 2-1 on Friday's, 4-0-1 on Saturday's and 0-1 on Sunday's this season. The Gems are 4-2-0 following a win and 2-0-1 following a loss.
