Erie Otters News Release
Ottawa, Ontario - The Erie Otters found themselves in a defensive struggle against a goaltender who made it tough to score, but they were able to pick up two points in a hard-fought 2-1 win over the Ottawa 67's at TD Place Friday night.
In their first game action in six days, the Otters got off to a good start by scoring the game's first goal. Nick Betz's shot from the right circle found its way past Leo Lazarev at 8:32 to give Erie the early advantage. Devin Williams was busy in the period, making 14 saves. One puck did get past Williams for the game's tying goal. Austen Keating scored unassisted to make the score 1-1 entering the first intermission.
The second period saw the Otters dominate possession, outshooting the 67's 16-3 in the frame. Despite the flurry of shots on goal, Erie wasn't able to grab the lead, taking the 1-1 tie into the final period.
The score would finally change with seven and a half minutes remaining. After Lazarev stopped the initial shot on net, the puck got away and Jake Marchment was able to bury the loose puck. Marchment's 11th of the season gave the Otters the lead for good. Williams continued his excellent play in net, shutting Ottawa down and finishing with 31 saves.
Erie continues its road trip tomorrow in Kingston against the Frontenacs at 7 p.m.
