Mallards Open up to Full Capacity as They Host Rafters

June 4, 2021 - Northwoods League (Northwoods)
Madison Mallards News Release

Coming off a win in 12 innings last night in Wausau against the Woodchucks, the Madison Mallards (2-2) are back home at the Duck Pond to host the Wisconsin Rapids Rafters (2-2).

The Mallards won a back-and-forth game last night against the Woodchucks as it went into extra innings tied 3-3. Both teams scored in the 11th inning and then the Mallards were able to win on a JT Benson sac-fly in the 12th with Eric Newman closing it out on the mound with a save.

The Ducks sit at 2-2 on the season after splitting both of the opening series with Lakeshore and the Woodchucks.

On the mound tonight for the Mallards is Kyle Jungers (Edgewood). Jungers has already made an appearance for the team this season when he threw three shutout innings on opening day out of the bullpen. The Madison, Wisconsin native struck out six batters in those three innings and will be making his first start in the Northwoods League.

The probable starter on the mound for the Rafters is Justin Beyer out of Wagner, the college teammate of Mallards pitcher Ryan Lauk.

The Duck Pond at Warner Park will be opened up to full capacity for the first time since the 2019 season. The first two games of the season for the Mallards were at limited capacity prior to Dane County lifting the COVID-19 related restrictions.

The first pitch for tonight's game is scheduled for 6:05 p.m., then the Mallards will travel to Wisconsin Rapids for a 6:35 p.m. first pitch on Saturday.
