Hartford Yard Goats News Release

HARTFORD - Highly-touted pitching prospect Matt Manning out pitched Ty Culbreth Tuesday night, as the Erie Seawolves two-hit the Hartford Yard Goats, 4-0, before 4,552 at Dunkin' Donuts Park. Erie (21-20) has won the first two games of the three-game set. Cam Gibson, the son of former major league player and manager Kirk Gibson, had a single, double, two RBI and scored a run to pace the Erie offense. Joe Navilhon pitched 2 2/3 innings of no-hit relief, striking out three for his first save. It was the sixth time this season the Yard Goats have been blanked.

Manning, the Detroit Tigers first round draft pick in 2016, no-hit the Yard Goats for 5 2/3 innings and retired 16 straight, before the speedy Manny Melendez beat out an infield hit to short. After yielding a lead-off double in the seventh inning to Vince Fernandez, Manning got a line out to left and a strike out, before being lifted. The 6-6 right-hander, whose dad, Rich Manning, played two seasons in the NBA, allowed two hits over 6 2/3 innings. He walked two batters and tied a season-high with 10 strike outs.

Culbreth hurled five innings for Hartford, allowing two runs on five hits in absorbing the defeat. He walked two and struck out three. Reliever Chris Russin, on major league rehabilitation from the Colorado Rockies, tossed two-plus innings and gave up one run on two hits.

Hartford (24-21) fell behind 2-0 in the second inning, when Jose Azocar and Kade Scivique hit back-to-back singles and Gibson doubled in a run. He later scored on a Sergio Alcantara single. The Seawolves added two runs in the eighth, when John Lester, who reached on a walk, moved to third on a single by Azocar and scored on a wild pitch. Gibson's single knocked in Azocar with the final run.

Alcantara's three hits and RBI and Gibson's double, single, two RBI and run scored led Erie's 10-hit attack.

The series and home stand wrap up Wednesday at 10:35 AM. In a battle of right-handers, Rico Garcia will pitch for Hartford against Logan Shore for Erie. The game will be broadcast on News Radio 1410AM, on 100.9 FM, in Spanish on 1120AM and on the Internet on newsradio1410.iheart.com and on MiLB.com.
