Augusta Lynx News Release

Augusta managed to knock off the Roanoke Express 4-1 at home Friday night before losing to Columbia Saturday and in Charlotte on Sunday.

2/6 Roanoke 1 @ Augusta 4

Terry Marchant joined the Lynx just in time, as he recorded his first professional hat trick Friday night in the Lynx's 4-1 win over the Roanoke Express. Scott Kelman notched four assists in the game while Gregg Naumenko turned aside 33 shots to earn the win for Augusta. John Cronin scored Augusta's first goal of the game and Daisuke Obara added an assist in his team debut as well.

2/7 Columbia 3 @ Augusta 1

Columbia moved ahead of the Lynx 3-0 on goals by Tim Smith, Jesse Schultz, and Paul Cabana before Terry Marchant scored his fourth goal in two games to get the Lynx within two at the 11:28 mark of the third period from Louis Goulet and Brad Fraser. The Lynx picked up life off the goal and pressed hard for the next marker, but came up short. Rob McVicar stopped 35 shots for the win while Gregg Naumenko stopped 27 shots in the loss for the Lynx.

2/8 Augusta 1 @ Charlotte 4

Jonathan Gagnon took a pass from Paul Vincent and broke in past the defense on the left wing to beat Scott Meyer to give the Lynx a 1-0 lead, but from there it was all Charlotte on the scoreboard. Four unanswered goals by the Checkers would spell the end for the Lynx in the game, Augusta's first loss in Charlotte this year. Will Hamele turned aside 25 shots in the loss while Meyer stopped 20 for the win.

Lynx Notes

* Jonathan Gagnon has scored a goal in 8 of his last 10 games for the club, amassing nine goals and four assists in that stretch. (Note: Gagnon missed several games during those last ten due to a broken finger)

* Terry Marchant became only the second player in Lynx history to score a hat trick in his team debut. Marchant scored three times against the Roanoke Express Friday night in a 4-1 Lynx win. The other Lynx to notch a hat trick in his debut is current ECHL All-Time Scoring Leader Louis Dumont, who accomplished the feat on December 10th, 1999.

* Sunday marked the first time the Lynx have not gone to a shootout against the Checkers in Charlotte this season. Augusta won the previous two extra-session affairs with the Checkers, and the Lynx are now 3-2-0 against them this season.

Lynx Town Hall Meeting

The Augusta Lynx have a special evening in store for their fans, with the team hosting the inaugural "Great Skate Debate" this Tuesday, Feb. 10, 2004 at the Augusta Ice Sports Center.

Fans are invited to come and skate with the Lynx players from 6-7 pm, and then take part in a "Town Hall Meeting" immediately after the skate, during which team officials will address any questions, comments or concerns about the organization.

Representing the Lynx will be General Manager Paul Gamsby and Coach Stan Drulia, who will be happy to field both on- and off-ice issues.

Also, the Lynx would like to send a special thank you to Augusta-Richmond County Civic Center Manager Larry Rogers and CenterPlate concessions manager Brent LeFevre for agreeing to be on hand for this event.

As two of our most important business partners, Mr. Rogers and Mr. LeFevre both say they hope to come away from the "Town Hall Meeting" with a better understanding of the wishes and needs of Lynx fans, and will answer questions and field suggestions.

The "Skate with the Lynx" is free for fans. There also is no cost for skate rental; however, fans can make a donation to the Augusta Junior Lynx Travel Hockey program at the skate rental counter.

The Lynx would also like to thank the Augusta Ice Sports Center for making this night possible. The Ice Sports Center is located off Bobby Jones Expressway at 1249 Augusta West Parkway. For more information on the event, call Rob Mueller, Lynx Assistant GM, at (706) 724-4423.
