THE WEEK AHEAD

Tuesday, February 10th @ Greenville Grrrowl 7:30pm Bi-Lo Center

The Inferno is 3-1-0 against the Greenville this season and 15-5-1 all-time. This is the fifth meeting between these two teams. Greenville is in last place in the Southern Division with 18 points (7-34-4).

Friday, February 13th @ Columbus Cottonmouths 7:30pm Columbus Civic Center

This is the last meeting between the Inferno and Cottonmouths this season. The Columbus Cottonmouths is in fourth place in the Central Division of the Western Conference with 56 points (26-19-4). The Inferno is 3-0-2 against the Cottonmouths this season and 15-4-2 all-time.

Sunday, February 15th vs. Gwinnett Gladiators 4:00pm Carolina Coliseum

The Gwinnett Gladiators is in third place in the Central Division of the Western Conference with 58 points (27-16-4). The Inferno is 2-1-0 this season against the Gladiators. This is the fourth out of five games between the two teams.

Thursday, February 5th INFERNO 4 Grrrowl 2

The Columbia Inferno defeated the Greenville Grrrowl 4-2 to improve their record to 28-14-5. Terry Harrison scored at 11:09 of the first period as he took a pass from Matt Ulwelling up the right side and shot the puck passed goaltender Michel Robinson. Paul Cabana scored off of a rebound at 14:55 to give the Inferno a 2-0 lead. Ryan Petz and Jesse Schultz had the assists. Greenville battled back with two power play goals in the second period at 7:15 and 8:54. Alex Burrows scored the game-winning goal at 9:49 off of a Dennis Vial shot that hit the post. Burrows then added an empty net goal at 19:16 of the third period as the Inferno skated off with the win. Columbia and Greenville were even in shots at 28. Inferno goaltender Rob McVicar recorded his eighth in of the season.

Friday, February 6th INFERNO 2 Florida 1

Paul Cabana scored the game-winning goal at 5:07 of the second period on a one-timed slap shot on the left side of Florida's goalie Rob Zepp as Barrie Moore fed him a pass across the middle. Columbia opened the scoring at 4:30 of the first period as Tim Smith scored his 19th goal of the season with a backhanded top shelf shot. Jesse Schultz took the puck up the right side and passed to Smith in front of the net. Florida tied the game with a goal by Brent McDonald at 3:53 of the second period as Rob McVicar went down into the butterfly early. Columbia outshot Florida 42-27 and McVicar recorded his second consecutive win to improve his record 9-3-2.

Saturday, February 7th INFERNO 3 Augusta 1

The Columbia Inferno won their third game this week as they beat the Augusta Lynx 3-1 and Alex Burrows recorded an assisted on each goal for the Inferno. Jesse Schultz opened the scoring for the Inferno at 7:51 of the second period with a backhanded wrist shot. Tim Smith passed the puck behind the net to Alex Burrows, who then passed it to the center and caught Augusta's goalie Gregg Naumenko out of the crease. At 14:46, Smith scored his 20th goal of the season from Burrows and Schultz to give the Inferno a 2-0 lead going into the third period. Paul Cabana scored a shorthanded goal, his 22nd goal of the season at 6:40 of the third period with help from Burrows as the Inferno go ahead 3-0. The Lynx tried battled back as Terry Marchant scored at 11:28 to end McVicar's chances of a shutout. The Inferno held their own and skated to a victory as they improved their first place record to 30-14-5. The Lynx outshot the Inferno 36-30.
