Express makes changes to roster
February 9, 2004 - ECHL (ECHL)
Roanoke Express News Release
ROANOKE, VA â Roanoke Express Head Coach Tony MacAulay announced today that the team has signed defenseman Kevin Hansen. To make room for Hansen, the team released defenseman Dan McNeill.
Hansen will be in a Roanoke uniform for Tuesday night's game in Greensboro. The 25-year-old native of New York skated last season in the Central Hockey League with the Odessa Jackalopes. In 61 games with the Jackalopes Hansen notched 23 points (10g, 13a) and 94 penalty minutes.
"The addition of Kevin to our roster will help solidify our defensive corps" said MacAulay. "He's a strong skater, moves the puck well, and has good vision."
Hansen has prior ECHL experience, playing in four games with the Augusta Lynx in 2001-02. Prior to joining the professional ranks, Hansen played two seasons with the University of Windsor ('98-'99 & '00-'01), and also spent four years in the Ontario Hockey League from 1995-1998, with Sudbury and Windsor.
In order to add Hansen to the roster, the Express released McNeill, a rookie defenseman. The 21-year-old Toronto, Ont. native had played in 38 games with Roanoke, collecting two assists and 10 penalty minutes. "Dan did a strong job with us while he was here" added MacAulay. "He made sure he didn't get himself into bad spots, and proved that with his plus-4 rating, but unfortunately his experience doesn't match that of Kevin Hansen."
The Express returns home on Tuesday, February 17, when it hosts the Greensboro Generals. The first 1,500 fans will receive a Miracle movie poster. The Express remains at home on Friday and Saturday Feb. 20 & 21 to take on the Gwinnett Gladiators. February 21 is pack the Roundhouse Night. The first 3,000 fans receive a Roanoke Express player card sheet.
