Dayton Bombers News Release
The Dayton Bombers took five out of a possible six points in a three-game sequence this past week. Included were a pair of one-goal triumphs over the Cincinnati Cyclones and Toledo Storm. The Bombers also recorded their first point of the season against Wheeling. Below is a recap of the games played this past week:
Wednesday, February 4, 2004- BOMBERS 3 @ Cincinnati 2- Janne Jokila and Nate Kiser scored first period goals as the Dayton Bombers snapped a three-game losing streak with a 3-2 victory over the Cincinnati Cyclones at U.S. Bank Arena in downtown Cincinnati Wednesday night. Jokila scored his tenth goal of the season at 3:30 of the first, rifling a screen shot past Cincinnati netminder Randy Petruk. At the 7:00 mark, ECHL All-Star defenseman Nate Kiser slapped a shot off Petruk and into the net after a face-off win in the Cincinnati zone. After Cincinnati's Mark Concannon scored in the second period to pull his team to within one, the Bombers added a goal early in the third. Chad Theuer slipped past backchecker Concannon and sent a shot through Petruk's legs. Theuer's tally, his eighth of the season, was assisted by Sean Connolly and goalie Andrew Penner. Though the Cyclones made it 3-2 at 18:45 of the third on a score by Jason Maleyko, Penner, who made 35 saves (including 17 in the third period), withstood a late offensive thrust to preserve the win.
Friday, February 6, 2004- Wheeling 4 @ BOMBERS 3 (SO)- The Bombers earned a point in a 4-3 shootout loss versus the Wheeling Nailers at the Nutter Center. Scott Cameron had a goal and an assist for the Bombers in his return to the lineup, while Brian Ridolfi and Olivier Proulx also tallied in the effort. The Bombers led 3-2 in the third period as a result of Proulx's conversion at 12:43, but Mario LaRocque scored on the power play with 1:02 remaining to force the extra session. Bogdan Rudenko recorded the decisive goal in the shootout.
Saturday, February 7, 2004- Toledo 3 @ BOMBERS 4- Forwards Chad Theuer and Scott Cameron each scored twice as the Dayton Bombers defeated the Toledo Storm 4-3 at the Ervin J. Nutter Center Saturday night in front of a crowd of 5,538. The Bombers are 2-0-1 in their last three games. Theuer opened the game with a goal at 4:26 of the first period. Defenseman Sean Connolly skated behind the Toledo net, then found Theuer in the slot. Theuer beat goalie Jimi St. John from in close. After Morten Ask tied the game at one for Toledo 14:42 into the first, Scott Cameron answered at 18:43 following a strong play by Brian Ridolfi to forge into the Toledo zone. Cameron, who has three goals and one assist in two games since returning from AHL Syracuse, made it 3-1 on the power play at 19:12 of the second, but Toledo struck twice in the first 39 seconds of the third period to tie the game on goals by Ask and Alexander Jacques. But Theuer, who also had an assist, gave the Bombers the lead for good at 5:02 of the third. Jason Deskins moved in on a two-on-one. His shot was denied by St. John, but Theuer put in the rebound for his tenth goal of the season. Goalie Bujar Amidovski made 36 saves for the Bombers in the victory.
