
Lynx rally late to clip Checkers 5-4

CHARLOTTE, N.C. - The Augusta Lynx scored four goals during the third period to down the Charlotte Checkers 5-4 Wednesday in front of 3,193 fans at St. Lawrence Homes Home Ice at Charlotte Bobcats Arena. Nicolas Corbeil notched a goal and four assists to lead the Lynx.
The Checkers jumped out to a 2-0 lead early in the second period on goals by Daniel Sparre and Kris MacPhee. Augusta scored at the 13:33 mark of the second period as Brian Passmore found the net to cut the Checkers lead to 2-1.
Charlotte pushed the lead back to two goals early in the third period as Jake Ortmeyer scored at the 2:01 mark, but Augusta responded with four power play goals in the third period to take a 5-3 lead.
Corbeil, Passmore, Anthony Battaglia and Chris Leinweber scored on the power play for Augusta within a 10-minute timeframe to put the Lynx up 5-3 with five minutes to play in the third period.
The Checkers made it a one-goal game at the 19:27 mark, as Sparre picked up his second goal of the night, but Charlotte could not get the tying goal as the Lynx held on for the win.
Nathan Marsters picked up the win for Augusta making 22 saves while Glass took the loss for the Checkers stopping 36 shots.
The Checkers were outshot 26-41 and failed to convert on five power play chances while the Lynx scored four goals on 12 power plays.
