Augusta Lynx News Release

The Augusta Lynx rode a third period power play explosion, scoring four times with the man advantage in the game's final frame to down the Charlotte Checkers 5-4 on Wednesday night in a key divisional road game.

Nicolas Corbeil started the frenzy at 4:26 of the third period, followed by Brian Passmore's second goal of the night just over two minutes later to tie the game at 3-3. Anthony Battaglia followed with a workmanlike goal from his knees in front of the Checkers net to grab the lead for the Lynx at 13:30, while Sam Ftorek fired a laser past Jeff Glass at 15:06 to complete the onslaught and make it a 5-3 game.

After scoring with just three seconds left in the first period to take a 1-0 lead, Charlotte expanded the lead to 2-0 on a giveaway in the Augusta slot just 2:09 into the second stanza. Kris MacPhee picked off the errant pass through the slot and beat a surprised Nathan Marsters for an unassisted marker.

Augusta would strike back on a Brian Passmore marker at 13:33 to make it 2-1. Nicolas Corbeil circled out from the corner and found Anthony Battaglia in the high slot. Battaglia then fed the sneaky Passmore who had slipped in behind the Checkers defense for the goal to send Augusta into the intermission down by just a goal.

Daniel Sparre's second goal of the night closed the score to 5-4 with just 33.1 seconds remaining in the contest and Charlotte using an extra attacker.

The Lynx went 4-for-12 on the power play in the game while Charlotte finished the night at 0-for-5.

Augusta will return to action with a Friday/Saturday weekend set against the Florida Everblades, with both games slated for 7:35 pm faceoffs. Tickets are on sale now through the Lynx office at (706) 724-4ICE, all TicketMaster locations, and on line at www.TicketMaster.com.
