Titans bolster roster at deadline

TRENTON, NJ (March 15, 2006) - The Trenton Titans announced on Wednesday that they have acquired forward Pete Gardiner from the Pensacola Ice Pilots in exchange for goaltender Dustin Traylen.

Gardiner, 28, put up nine goals, nine assists and thirty four penalty minutes in 38 games for the Ice Pilots after being traded to Pensacola by the Victoria Salmon Kings on November 20. The 6,5", 220-pound native of Toronto, Ontario spent last season overseas with the Leipzig Ice Lions of the German Oberliga registering 61 points (28g, 33a) in 47 matches.

Now in his sixth year of professional hockey, Gardiner has compiled 78 goals, 95 assists and 359 penalty minutes in 264 career ECHL games. Gardiner played four years of collegiate hockey (1996-2000) at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and was originally a fifth round draft pick (#120 overall) of the Chicago Blackhawks in 1997.

In separate transactions the Titans also announced that goaltender Scott Stirling has been assigned by the San Antonio Rampage of the American Hockey League (AHL), while Garret Stroshein has been assigned by the AHL's Providence Bruins.

Stirling, 27, comes to Trenton for third time this season. With the Titans in 2005-06, the sixth-year pro has posted a record of 6-6-1 with a goals against average of 2.74 and a .910 save percentage. Stirling was 1-5-1 this year in seven games for the Rampage with a 2.85 goals against average and a .916 save percentage.

Stirling burst onto the scene during his rookie season in 2000-01 going 32-10-3, helping the Titans to their first Kelly Cup appearance and earning honors for ECHL Goaltender of the Year while also being selected All-ECHL First Team and All-ECHL Rookie Team.

Last season, Stirling totaled a career best 35 wins as a part of a 35-18-3 campaign for the Danbury Thrashers of the United Hockey League. Prior to turning pro, he was a four-year letterman at Brown University from 1996-2000.

Stroshein, 25, has recorded a goal, four assists and 129 penalty minutes for the Bruins over 48 games. Prior to his arrival in Providence, the 6'7", 245-pound fourth-year pro spent three seasons with the Portland Pirates (AHL) where he chipped in five points (1g, 4a) and 268 penalty minutes in 105 contests. A native of Edmonton, Alberta, Stroshein skated with the Washington Capitals (NHL) for three games in 2003-04.

Stroshein has played in a total of ECHL six games making appearances with the South Carolina Stingrays and the now-defunct Mobile Mystics and Richmond Renegades..

The Titans take the ice tonight against the Toledo Storm at 7:05pm at the Toledo Sports Arena.
