Augusta Lynx News Release

Scoring two goals in the 3rd period, the Lynx came from behind and found a way to win on Friday night at home against the visiting Charlotte Checkers, 3-2. The win moves the Lynx into sole possession of 3rd place for the time being in the South Division. Charlotte had other plans however to start the game, as they jumped on the Lynx from the first shift getting a goal just :20 seconds into the game on a one-timer in front from Chris Capraro to take a 1-0 lead. The 1st period was highlighted by the 19 penalties that were handed out, inclduing 17 in the 2nd half of the period. Those penalties included eight combined fighting majors, including six on one play alone as #6 Will Bodine, #10 Jason Kostadine, and #27 Nick Toneys all dropped the gloves during a scurmish that involved all the skaters on the ice with :15 seconds remaining in the opening period. The scrap seemed to put a charge into the Lynx players and crowd, and the Lynx responded in the 2nd period on the power play with a goal from #9 Louis Gouet who tipped home the third rebound with help from #19 Aaron Slattengren and #25 Adrian Veideman. The lead wouldn't last as Jordan Owens found himself alone in the Lynx slot, slipping home a wide open shot past a sprawling #30 Bobby Goepfert for a 2-1 Checkers lead at the end of two periods. That would be all Goepfert would allow however, and the Lynx responded in quick fashion in the 3rd period. Some nice forechecking by #20 Matt Auffrey put the puck in front for linemate #21 Bobby Bolt to smash home to tie the game at 2-2 less than two minutes in the 3rd period. The Lynx took their first and only lead of the game midway through the 3rd period as #23 John Laliberte tipped home a drive from Veideman and Goulet for the eventual game-winning goal. The Lynx outshot the Checkers 41-24.
