BILOXI, MS - The Pensacola Ice Pilots defeated the Mississippi Sea Wolves (7-15-2) in overtime on Friday evening at the Pensacola civic Center by a score of 4-3.
Penscaola got on the board at the 8:02 mark of the first period when Eric Fabian found a loose puck and banged it past Morgan Cey on the power-play. Mississippi clawed even 57 seconds later when Brett Angel scored his first ECHL goal when he found the rebound of a wraparound try by Stanislav Lascek and put it past Pensacola's Cam Ellsworth at 8:59.
The Sea Wolves took the lead early in the second period when Mark Rooneem found the rebound of a shot from Chris Cava with Mississippi on the man-advantage at the 3:50 mark. Pensacola evened the score on the power-play when Mike Sgroi's pass found Luke Erickson uncovered at the back door at 6:37. Mississippi retook the lead when Ellsworth's attempted sweep-check of Mark Rooneem directed the puck to Lance Monych, who fired it into the net for his 11th goal of the season at 9:40. The Ice Pilots would even the score when Sgroi charged in and banged home the rebound of Erickson's shot at the 18:42 mark of the second.
After a scoreless third period, the Sea Wolves found themselves shorthanded in overtime when Travis Lisabeth took at hooking penalty at 1:38. Four seconds later, Pensacola's Joel Stepp took a slashing minor that saw the teams skate three-aside until Bryan Esner took advantage of a Mississippi giveaway, raced down one-on-one against Mark Hurtubise and tucked the puck past Cey for the win at 2:04 of overtime.
Mississippi was 1-for-8 on the power play, and Morgan Cey made 36 saves earning an overtime loss.
