Baker Returns To Wildcatters Tonight
December 14, 2007 - ECHL (ECHL)
Texas Wildcatters News Release
Beaumont, TX- Texas Wildcatters Head Coach and Vice President of Hockey Operations Malcolm Cameron announced Friday that the Wildcatters have signed 2006-07 top scorer Kevin Baker to a contract. Per team policy, terms of the deal were undisclosed.
Baker, 28, an ECHL All-Star last season, scored 36 goals and 45 assists for a staggering 81 points in 62 games with the Wildcatters. He began this season playing for Schwenningen ERC in Germany.
Baker's return adds additional firepower to an ECHL-leading Wildcatters team that already leads the league in goals scored (89). His +10 net rating in 2006-07 certainly indicates he will also add to the Texas defense, which currently ranks in the top five.
"Kevin's points last year speak for themselves," said Cameron, "But what you don't see on the stat sheet is the veteran presence he brings to our locker room and the amount that he cares for the Southeast Texas community. We are immediately a better team and couldn't be happier to welcome him back."
Prior to his tenure with the Wildcatters, Baker was the 2005-06 Canadian University Player of the Year while at Acadia University, Cameron's Alma Mater, where he was linemates with current Wildcatters rookie Brandon Benedict.
The Wildcatters and Florida Everblades face off tonight at 6:30 CST in Estero, FL in the second of a three-game set. The Wildcatters were winners of a 4-3 OT decision Tuesday and are currently on a twelve-game unbeaten streak. At 18-2-4 the Wildcatters lead the ECHL with 40 points and have a seven-point lead over the Gwinnett Gladiators in the South Division. The 'Catters return home Dec. 20 for a three-game series with the Mississippi Sea Wolves.
The Texas Wildcatters are the proud ECHL affiliate of the Minnesota Wild of the NHL and the AHL's Houston Aeros. Celebrate the Catters' Fifth Anniversary Season! Book your group or Holiday Party with the Wildcatters, call (409) 951-5500.
The ECHL has affiliations with 26 of the 30 teams in the National Hockey League marking the 11th consecutive season that the league has had affiliations with at least 20 teams in the NHL.
