Johnstown Chiefs News Release

Cincinnati, OH - The Johnstown Chiefs returned to North division play with authority, downing the Cincinnati Cyclones 6-1 on Friday night.

Cincinnati got on the board quick when Billy Irish-Baker wristed a shot past Andrew Penner just a minute into the first period. The Chiefs would survive a full two-minute 5-on-3 power play with Brandon Straub and Tyler Hirsch in the box, but in spite of the power play struggles Cincy would tally twice more in the first.

Matt Syroczynski would pound home a rebound off of a Jean-Michel Daoust shot, while Mathieu Aubin put a spinning wrist shot by Penner with only 11 seconds left in the first.

The second period was riddled with penalties, and the Chiefs ended up benefiting. Andrew Martens wired a slap shot past Maxime Daigneault for the first goal against Cincy this year for Johnstown. Then Straub, a defenseman playing as a forward on the power play, scored his first pro goal with assists from Hirsh and Kenny Roche.

The Chiefs killed off another lengthy 5-on-3 power play in the second, this time with Ryan Nie in net, replacing the starter, Penner.

The Cyclones were able to beat Nie three times in the third period, though, to earn the 6-2 victory. Jean Michel-Daoust, Syroczynski, and Gerard Miller all tallied for Cincy in the final frame.

The Chiefs finished 2-for-8 on the power play, while the goaltenders each allowed three markers. Nie went 21-for-24 on saves while Penner was 12-for-15.

The Chiefs' next home game is on Friday December, 21 against the Cincinnati Cyclones. The PA Lottery is sponsoring a scratch off ticket giveaway at that game, and Santa Clause will also be on hand for the Chiefs' Christmas celebration! Then don't forget about the Hanson Brothers appearance, sponsored by the Tribune Democrat, at the game on Saturday Decmeber, 22. Great seats are still available at the UPMC Health Plan Ice Rink at the Cambria County War Memorial for both games, call 536-5156 or go to www.johnstownchiefs.com to get yours today!!
