Wheeling Nailers News Release

DAYTON, OH - New Nailers' acquisition Justin Chwedoruk scored a goal and added an assist in his Wheeling debut but it was not enough as the Dayton Bombers beat the Wheeling Nailers 4-2 Friday night at the Nutter Center.

The Bombers jumped on the board just 2:20 into the opening period. Peter Flasche ripped the puck away from the corner and pushed a tough shot on goal. The rebound squirted free and Flasche followed his shot, dove at it and knocked it into the net. Ryan Smyth was credited with an assist on the play.

Wheeling outshot the Bombers 9-8 in the first period but the score remained 1-0 until the second.

Chwedoruk, traded from Bakersfield earlier in the week, tipped home a Jeremy Swanson shot at 2:25 of the second. It was his eighth of the year and first in a Nailers uniform.

The Nailers grabbed their only lead of the game at 11:37 of the second when Joe Jensen ripped one past Jeremy Duchesne. Jensen, also playing in his first game this season with Wheeling, broke in on a breakaway from the side boards. Just as he was about to run out of room, he pulled the trigger for his first goal of the year. Chwedoruk assisted on the play.

Dayton tied the game up with their first of two power-play goals. Taylor Christie's shot left a rebound on the doorstep for Yanick Tifu to put past Martin Houle at 14:04 of the second. It was the eighth goal of the year for Tifu.

With the game tied at two in the third period, Christie notched the game winner, again on the power play with just 8:49 left in regulation. Tifu set up along the goal-line and fed Christie streaking towards the net for a quick shot and his third goal of the season.

The Bombers added an empty netter at 18:28 to expand their lead to two.

Houle stopped 23 shots in a losing effort while Duchesne blocked 21 of the 23 shots that he faced.

The Wheeling Nailers return to home ice on Saturday to take on the Cincinnati Cyclones at 8pm. The first 2,500 fans in attendance will receive "Going to Work" holiday t-shirts. Then on Sunday the Nailers square off again with the Bombers at 6:05pm.
