Pilots snap streak, win in OT 4-3

PENSACOLA, FL - Bryan Esner scored the game-winning goal at 2:04 of overtime as the Ice Pilots defeated the rival Mississippi Sea Wolves at the Pensacola Civic Center. The game went back and forth all night with each team unable to hold a lead for long.

The Pilots went ahead first as Erik Fabian scored his first goal of the season at 8:02 of the first period on the power play, but Mississippi tied it 57 seconds later on a Brett Angel goal. The second period saw the Sea Wolves go ahead for the first time as Mark Rooneem netted a power play tally to make it 2-1. The Pilots responded as Mike Sgroi fed Luke Erickson with a perfect pass and Erickson beat Morgan Cey on the power play to tie things up at two.

Lance Monych scored his team leading 11th goal of the season to give Mississippi the lead back at 3-2. Mike Sgroi answered as he netted his team leading 8th goal to tie the game at 3.

Neither team scored in the third period and then in overtime, Bryan Esner powered his way into the Mississippi zone and created a breakaway to win the game for Pensacola 4-3.

The Ice Pilots out shot Mississippi 39-21 in the victory. Pensacola finished the game 2 for 8 on the power play while the Sea Wolves went 1 for 8.
