Idaho Steelheads News Release

Boise, ID - Greg Rallo scored twice in regulation, including the game-tying goal with two seconds left, before tallying the game-winner in a shootout to push the Steelheads to a dramatic 4-3 win over the Phoenix RoadRunners on Friday night.

A crowd of 4,360 fans watched as the Steelheads (9-8-7) pulled goaltender Steve Silverthorn (28 saves) for an extra attacker in the game's waning minutes. With the clock ticking down, Mark Bomersback smacked the puck free for Lance Galbraith and he centered the puck to Rallo who snapped the puck over the blocker of RoadRunners' goaltender Dave McKee (36 saves) for his team-leading 14th marker.

After a scoreless overtime, in which the Steelheads out-shot the RoadRunners 3-0, it was on to a shootout. Matt Craig and Rallo tallied for the Steelheads, while Silverthorn denied all four visitors' shooters to earn his fourth win of the season.

The victory is the Steelheads' eighth on home ice and second in a shootout this season. The win also gives them four points in the series against the RoadRunners (8-11-5) with the series finale slated for tomorrow night.

Earlier in the match, Rallo broke a scoreless tie to put the Steelheads in front 1-0 heading into the first intermission, as he walked out from the left wing corner and into the high slot before snapping a shot inside the short side post. Galbraith and Bomersback recorded the assists on the even-strength goal, which came at 14:08.

The RoadRunners scored the only three markers in the second period, with their rally beginning at 2:57 of the frame. Defenseman Ian Turner tied the contest with his fourth of the campaign, and then late in the period, the visitors scored twice in the final four minutes to stake themselves to a 3-1 lead. At 16:32 Peder Skinner potted his 12th, a power play goal. Then, with less than a minute left in the frame, Sean O'Connor snapped a shot past the glove of Silverthorn for his 11th tally of the season.

Through two periods the RoadRunners held a 3-1 lead and they led in shots 26-15.

The Steelheads third period comeback began early in the stanza as Mike Sullivan potted his seventh of the season at the 42 second mark. On the play, defenseman Jeremy Scherlinck had his left point shot kicked aside by McKee but Sullivan swept the rebound home. Taggart Desmet picked up the second assist on the goal that made it 3-2 and eventually set up Rallo's game-tying marker.

The final shots favored the Steelheads 40-31. The home club went zero-for-three on the power play and three-for-four on the penalty kill.

The Steelheads finish up their series with the RoadRunners on Saturday, December 15. The puck drops at 7:10 p.m. MST. All the action can be heard live on 1350 AM, KTIK "The Ticket" or via the B2 Networks.
